I just played through Sacred which had day and night cycles, and all it meant was that half the playing time was spent with lousy graphics and poor visibility. In that case it was probably done to suit their vampiress character whose abilities change at nightfall and daybreak.

Perhaps there is a way to do night scenes that don't mean that the game looks dull and things are hard to find for half the game, but it's not my preference.

In general I'd rather keep things going than have to cope with 'realism' factors like collecting and eating food, day/night cycles, etc. Real life has plenty of routine boring stuff that I'd rather see left out of the gaming world. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Perhaps if games must have day/night cycles then we could get a short bit of evening action followed by an automatic (and instant) sleep time that renews your stats. More believable than just ploughing on in the dark as some games do. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />
