Hi,

Can anybody please tell me where I might find some new skill teachers in the Temple District at the start of Act 3, or elsewhere in that Act?

I was hoping that the 5 teacher/merchants at the battlefields might level up their teaching from act to act, but they've been offering the same skills every time.

Fair enough I guess, but I read somewhere here that they offered much better stuff than I am seeing. Is this another patch issue? We have v 1.32, which seems to have a lot of bugs etc. Unfortunately a 20+ megs patch would take many hours to download via my dial up modem. I also can't find mention of that issue in the fix list for the latest patch.

I'd like to be able to level up Crossbow skills (only now offered at level 3 at the BF in act 3). I'd also like to try out some new mage skills - particularly the Shaman hammer spell (??) that I've seen mentioned here. Not on offer at the BF in Act 3 for me.

Can anybody please tell me where they might be on offer elsewhere??

Sure has worked differently at least the last bunch of patches - the BF trainers did have better stuff every act.

Only hammer trainer I recall was the hermit in act 2 (cave in forest to NW of imp village) but there probably are others - I just got lazy (cash being almost infinite with the patches I played under) and bought at the BFs.

Both the BF traders' inventory and skill selections were improved in the 1.4x patches.

The patch should only take a couple hours to download, even with a 28.8 modem. There are several download managers you could use, and as long as you are not charged by the minute you could leave it downloading overnight if you had to.

Elkar should teach nature magic (Hammer) in the BF, though that probably wasn't the case under 1.32. The Crossbow skill from Olaf should be at level 8 in the BF of act 3. There is another teacher in the swamp area (late in the act) that can teach Crossbow to level 5.

Sounds like they changed a lot in the patches. In v1.32 the BF merchants get only around 4000 gold which doesn't refresh until the acts change. They also only get a very small selection of crummy goods and the money you pay for training doesn't show up in their inventories. Not a big deal of course, as there's enough of gold and potions available elsewhere.

I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and try an overnight download. The connection here is very slow no matter what modem speed (and no broadband available through the local exhange) so it will take 4 or 5 hours. Thanks for the links to the download managers. I might also ask my local games shop if it might be worth their while to offer a 'burn a patch' to CD service for their customers at a modest price, as I know they have broadband.

I just tried to get the one in Raze's link and it slowed right down to under 1k per second. When I tried to install it, it informed me that I'd got a corrupt copy (it was 11k short!!). Rats! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />

At that download rate it will take over 7 hours to get the patch. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
