Hi all,

I confess that I find it hard not to collect vast hoards of potions in RPGs, most of which I never use. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a game without a hefty stock of unused potions – just in case!!

However, after an Act or so I usually just keep a stock of red white and blue ones and leave the rest on the ground (they don’t fetch much for sale anyway).

I can see the possible uses of a temporary increase in this or that, but I just never seem to need the boost or ever get round to using them.

Any potion fans out there who use them all, or anything much other than the basics? Any neat potion tricks or fun ways to use them? Or maybe there are players who just get absorbed by the whole alchemy thing?

Hm, how did you do that? I didn't need a lot of potions either, I usually slept after a battle to regain some health. But in the last battles I think I used half of all the potions I had

Health potions I hoard; the rest I mostly sell off. (Since my characters are both warriors with very low int. the mana potions are useless anyway.) Of all the strange places, they're coming in very handy in the Act IV Battlefields, where the NPCS tend to be witches, clerics, and mages, and can throw spells with a hell of a punch. If five or six of those hit you at once, you need the potions to live because you can't strike back for a bit.

In DD I cared more about the potions and about alchemy than I care in BD, but with the way the skill tree works now, I had to unlearn my alchemy skill because I simply needed the points somewhere else. (I loved the way DD skills worked; I miss it.) I haven't found a situation where the temporary skill boost was worth it, although I may hang on to more potions as I go into Act V because you never know what kind of heavy-duty boss-type characters will show up as you head toward the end of a game.

I allways think I'll need the speed/agility type pots for something and never do. I've got a house full of crap in RL I'll never use either.

Exactly my situation. For the whole first act and half of the second, I though that if I meet a trully bad-donkey character, I'll have to use up all my potions: It's a Baldur's Gate 2 reflex. But I killed one, two, three different entities and never I had to use the potions.

By the way, Kult won't have healing potions, which I think is a boon and forces player to be more careful.

I think you should concentrate on reading the forums instead of writting your own comments, Lews .

What?? I've only seen 4!

You might want to check my new Kult post in the RPG section: I found the interview very interesting.

I must admit I collect everything, in DD I used a lot of different potions but in I found they just slowed me down (weight), I had several hundred mana potions I never used. Most used potions were strength (for lugging extra booty before returning to sell them) but I found I never used magic so had no use for the manna, I did need the health potions in the final battle and my health potions were stored near the merchants in the battlefields most of the time. I realy enjoyed the DD skill system and alchemy skills and missed them in Both characters ended up as warriors/fighters when they originally werent meant to be, I usually play Rogue/Cleric or Fighter/Mage and started off with my Deathnight as a magic user and my other character as a Survivor. There were all these skills but the game ended up more as a hack and slash. Maybe it was just the way I played it and if I played it again it might play different, does anybody have any opinons on this? Anyway, to me, (besides the basic ones) the potions seemed superfluous.

That sounds exactly like me! Both in game, and in R/L ... unfortunately.
