Tinman, let me make a short lockpick-statistic out of my memory:
Act 1 => 3 chests in recruit room + 1 chests in the officer's room + bathroom door
Act 2 => not one I recall
Act 3 => the locked house (as the landlord has the key, no access) + 1 locked chest in it + (1 chest stuck in the wall, lockpick won't help)
Act 4 => 3 locked gates for a Raanaar crossbow + 3 (4) chests + 1 locked door in mirror room + 2 locked cupboards => the number in brackets is due to the fact: a key exists but doesn't fit
my total => 8(10) chests + 6 locked gates/doors + 2 locked cupboards.
I invested my skill points into pickpocket <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> - even if lockpick would work; I'd still keep to this decision. I played an archer/survivor/mage
Kiya
I made these statistics to show you which (minor) role lockpick plays in BD. And I ask you now: would you invest 10 skill pts into this skill if it wasn't broken?
