tan = sin/cos duh

I don't think that Lews is learning trigonometry in his math class.
In France he would be in 4th of college.
I don't know what is the equivalent in belgium or in USA.

@Barta: 3 grade in high school I guess you mean high school (age 12-18) don't you.

any way i made this to explain.

[Linked Image]

blue is sine
yellow is cosine
green is tangent

sin x = opposing side / croced side
cos x = near side / croced side
tan x = opposing side / near side

with x the corner of the triangle in degrees. pretty basic stuff

so in this example of 45° it would be
sin 45° = 0,70710678118654752440084436210485
cos 45° = 0,70710678118654752440084436210485
tan 45° = 1

Tangent to a circle ?
I guess so. I just know next year we learn Tangent, whatever it is! And if you told me, I'd be ahead of the game ya see?

DEATH, lol, I'll print that out and make some! I'm going to the book store sometime this week to get more, I just finished MORT for the 2nd time last night, and the only one I have I havebn't finished would be Lords and Ladies, with 50 pages left.

I didn't know he made so many other books, need to get some!

Barta says: "OK A tangent is a line which has only one common point with a circle."

I will start Mort today. I decided to re-read my Terry Pratchett collection (sadly incomplete but I only buy paperback so it's all of the DW in PB available).
It's roughly 28 books. Probably more with "Science of the Discworld" and "Nanny Ogg's Cookbook".

@ Lucretia
No i never climbed at the top of the Eiffel Tower !
To go at the top of the Tower there is a lift and then stairs.

But i talked to real alpinist climbers who use to come specially in Paris to repair the building or to take care of the lights.
It's a very dangerous job ! As dangerous as climbing the Mount Everest !
I hope that you can spare money and come to visit France someday i am sure that you would like it.

@ janggut
I am a mathematics teacher.
For the student who has attention problems i have no solution !
The attention problems are linked to other things than school.
Going to bed too late, watching too much the television at night, playing too much video games, using drugs as marijuana, family problems as divorced parents or parents who don't take care of their children.............
A teacher can't solve these problems !
Some students can think that you are the most wonderful teacher and some other ones can think that you are the most boring one !
Don't take this too seriously, most of the time you are just a normal teacher doing his job.

Barta

@Barta
Oh this is one of my dreams! To visit France and see the Versailles. I am so interested in French history. And I am sure that I will love it. French wine is one of the best in the world! I think the places that produce wine called "satau" or something. French country side will be great I suppose. Hope I can make it sometime and have the money to travell there.
Yes repairing the Tower must be a very difficult job. It seems so high!

Barta what do you do when you realize that one of your students has one of the problems you mentioned above? Is it permited to you to talk about it with your students and try to help? I really don´t know how the system works at all. I have read that there are advisors in schools abroad that can help children with such problems. Is it true? Here in Greece we do not have any in schools. Pretty bad. All the bad things happen to our schools. The only thing that saves some children are some teachers that they care.
Luc - very curious to know about other countries-

in malaysia, it's only recently that the government realised counsellors are needed in schools to help students who are in need of help. there are quite a few batches of counsellors out there already in schools but this is not enough. overall attitude of the counsellors must be constantly be checked. also mental & emotional stability. the counsellors themselves should be in contact with one another to share ideas, infos, problems, solutions, tips, etc. that way help rendered to students will be of quality. but first & foremost, Luc is right by saying that the counsellors must be caring enough.

death, bomb squad can only afford to make one mistake? well a teacher's mistake will last for generations! now can any ordinary bomb do that?

i still believe teachers have very heavy responsibility to guide the young & shape them into the new generation that the nation hopes for.

so that means u're a guiding light, barta.

Lucretia: Personally I prefer german wines: France is mostly famous for Champagne and red whine but I prefer white wine .

Dunno why, but for some reason when I read Luc's post I could mentally see here jumping up from her chair and yelling "I knew it! ,I knew it! "

Grin ... still laughing about that. ( i said about that meaning the jumping up and down, not at you, Mea finished lamely hoping Luc didn't take it wrong

DARGH, how old are all you people, I'm only just finished third class (don't know what that would be in Amerika, Belgium, France, W/E) but I got hold back one year, and now I'm going to do 4 HAVO (gymnasium is highest, then atheneum and then HAVO, then lower you've got IVBO and some other stuff) I'm 16 now.

(and I like red wines better then white wines, they have more taste, and white is too sweet. from the red whines I prefer Alsace)
(just to cover beer, Palm [dutch brand])

You cannot generalise by saying white wines are more sweet. In fact, the ones I drink aren't sweet at all. I don't drink wine much: I prefer tea.
