Hi... I recently purchased Divine Divinity. Previously I had played games on my computer such as Diablo II, Warcraft, Starcraft etc. I have a Intel Pentium 4 computer that meets all the minimum requirements, including Direct X 9.1 (the lastest one) and WIN XP Home. I installed DD onto the computer and have been utterly frustrated with how slow it runs. It takes about 9 minutes to load a game. Then it will freeze up from 1 to 7 minutes during gameplay. I have lowered the resolution, turned off the fog, lowered the quality, used the alphabit, etc and it still lags. It is really frustrating... it's gotten to the point that I keep a book nearby to read during the lag sessions... so any help is much appreciated.

Second problem: I decided that I would try to install DD on a different computer, which runs on Win 98 PLUS and has the minimum requirements. But I can't even get past install. It starts to install the game then stops and says "Please insert install disk one" which is already in the CD-ROM drive. I then have to cancel the install and it says... cannot load C:/Program Files/Divine Divinity/UNRAR.EXE. Please help!!!! I really want to enjoy this game and not have to throw it out the window...

Welcome!

Ahh, sounds strange.

Any scratches on it? Can you say OK to putting in disk one...

For the XP system, do you have the latest service pack and critical updates? Have you check for updated video drivers, etc?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game, and did you do so before installing?

Thanks both of you.... nope... there are no scratches on the disk and it doesn't even offer an OK button when it asks for me to insert disk 1.

I have all the updates for every part from the critical to the drivers. Yes, I have shut down everything that does not need to be running.

Hmmmm....

Thanks again

The install program should automatically detect when a disk is inserted. Did you try ejecting and inserting the CD again? Did you try the second CD? Do you have a different optical drive you can try?

There is a manual install method in the link I posted, if you can not get the install program to continue.

There is a problem in 98 where the CD-ROM doesn't refresh within "My Computer" when you place a disc in it. I've seen this on other machines I'm sure.

Try and install another game (at least two discs long) and see if the problem reoccurs. You can also try hitting F5 while in "My Computer" which is refresh the window; if it doesn't then it's the refreshing problem.

At least if you try a 2 disc game, you'll know if it's the DD copy or your system.

If you have the space on your hard drive, you might try copying the entire CD onto your hard drive and doing the install from there. You will still need your CD to play.
I have had several programs of all types lately that this was needed on. I don't know what the cause is but it's easier to just to this, run the install, and delete the install directory than to fight it.
