I mentioned this in another post, but I had this happen to me and in fact could not get sneak mode to shut off. Both my hero and DK went into perma-sneak!! However, all I did was quit-reboot-load last saved game, and everything was back to normal. I am sure it was some sort of glitch, or bug. But rebooting my computer fixed it.
