...to shameless plug section; citing all the "positive" reviews. Why not link to some of the negative reviews? Honestly, in the announcements, I would like to hear about the developer's progress towards bug resolution. Imagine being sick, going to the doctor, and he reads you letters of testimonials from thankful patients. So come on Larian, get real.

hello ralphrepo,

welcome to the forum. as u already know, the positive reviews actually serve as a motivation of sorts to the development team as they've worked hard on the game for so long. why dwell on the black dot when most of the whiteboard is white? the larians, as far as i know, do not ignore the bugs & problems present in the game. they are among the rarest group of game developers who are in constant contact with gamers to find out how the game fares. given the fact that their ship is running tight, this is very admirable & has won many hearts of gamers. if given the same huge chunk of budget as blizzard, i'm sure they'll make any formidable developers sweat buckets as this bunch of people are amazing.

if u like the negative reviews, google is a big help in searching them out.

Hi Ralph

If you want to read negative comments about Beyond Divinity, you just have to read the posts in this forum.

Since the release of the demo of the game there is a huge number of very negative posts about the game and the webmaster of the forum (who works for Larian) has never deleted only one of these posts.
I gave myself a copy of a negative test in the french section of the forum and the topic has not been deleted too.

The reality is that there are people who like the game and other people who don't like it.

About the bugs, with the latest patch there are still very few bugs but it is not a problem.
The game is very fun to play.
(I am talking about the english version)

With all respect, but do you know any company doing the opposite?...
And as Barta said, negative comments can be read in the forum, it's not like we censor opinions.

Ha! Good one! I agree with you that just about all the game forums are guilty of doing exactly that. It's just tiresome when you're looking for something of substance and finding 90% fluff.

And no... I never intended to suggest that Larian was anything less than on the up and up with these boards. I've seen that most views seem to be uncensored and even some of the things that could be (like that person who uses chat txt that no one else can read) are here.

Maybe they can start a new category called "patch announcements" separately

We do have patch announcements

I think people would think that we are rather dumb if we would post 'bad' reviews. But like you state, we are not different than any other developer, publisher, or any other company selling products.
That's why mouth-to-mouth publicity around a product is good: you here + and - opinions. We don't announce them, but some people in the forum write about the negative points in the game, or say that they don't like the game because of certain reasons. And that's their perfect right. I think it would be very lame if we would ban these persons, or delete their messages. We never did that, and we will never do that. We don't expect that everybody likes our game, we would love that but that's just not possible, and that counts for everything and anything.

Ha! No, just brutally honest perhaps

...and hey, maybe all the other publishers' will follow suit, and you guys could start a new trend in honesty! Frankly though, I love the game, but hate the bugs. And I've been buying games and reading the trade rags long enough to get a sense of how the industry works. There really should be a "patch per product" rating that follows game publishing CEO's during their careers. Kind of like a pitcher's era or a batter's rbi stats. But that's another whole ball of wax

"Buy our product! Here are some of our failure stories..."

I do understand where you are coming from, ralphrepo. But this is a forum privately owned by a money making business. And besides, one of the announcements was that an independant site reported the game achieving an average of 80% across game reviews, so there can't be too many bad reviews out there.

I'm sure there are independant forums out there on the game that would have a wider range of reviews.

P.S. I just re-read that last sentance. I'm not trying to urge you away. we're glad to have you here.

Ralph

Imagine that you are searching for a new job.
During the interview you talk about your qualities but do you also talk about your defaults. Like saying :
- I can do a good work but i am a little slow
- I don't speak fluently any foreign language
- I had a very bad temper

Imagine that you get in love with a nice girl.
Are you going to tell her during your first dating :
- I hate doing the house work
- I use to make noise when i am sleeping
- I use to spend a lot of hours during the night playing RPG games

Are you just brutally honest in any circonstance ?

"Ralph Imagine that you are searching for a new job..." Barta

Well said Barta, But, to tell you the truth (no pun intended), that is a question that most interviewers DO ask. That is, to tell them something negative about yourself, as a measure of judging whether you're realistic enough to know that you're not perfect and to gauge your level of sincerity

And as for the rest of it:
- I hate doing the house work > So does she, but we both pitch it and bitch about it at the same time, ie misery love company.
- I use to make noise when i am sleeping > I don't know, I was never awake to notice.
- I use to spend a lot of hours during the night playing RPG games > Wrong. I still do. She er... tolerates it.

So you see? Being honest isn't so bad
