Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Technical Problems Special effect sound problem

I'm running DD with the latest patch. I can hear voices and music fine, but "special effect" sounds aren't working (for example, the sound you would hear when stairs are revealed after doing something). All I hear is a short, awful noise and that's it. I do hear the experience points "ding" ok. I've got a soundblaster Audigy 2, running on WinXP. Any suggestions?

Do you also have this problem in the sound options screen when changing the sound effects volume? Does rebooting the computer help any?
Try lowering your hardware sound acceleration a notch (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter, then switch to the sound tab).

No, I don't have the problem in the sound options screen. I have rebooted my computer and turned the hardware acceleration down a notch but I still have the problem in-game. Any other suggestions?

It's not affecting my game except that I don't hear all the sounds. Some of them are fine, but others are just a quick burst that sound like what you hear when a radio station isn't tuned in properly.

My drivers are up to date.

Because I can hear some sounds okay, I'd prefer not to turn off the sound, plus sound really enhances the game experience for me. If I can't resolve this problem I guess I'll live with it, but this is the only game I have this type of problem with so it's a bit disappointing.
