Like several others, I have been unable to get Beyond Divinity to run. It gives me an error window upon trying to run the Test on the Configtool

Unable to read configuration file
One of the threads indicated the problem may be that the config.div file is being treated as a div(x) file by my pc. How do I determine if this is the case and more importantly, how do I reset things so it can read properly?
I have run dxdiag and my drivers are up to date (NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX graphics card) (DirectX version 9.0b) I don't appear to be failing any tests. Also I have run a couple of other games that use 9.0 DirectX (Spellforce is especially graphic intense so I'm pretty sure the card works fine)
Any help would be appreciated. I am sorry that this is a repeat of others questions but I did search the threads before posting and just couldn't find enough details to fix my particular version of the problem.
