I have no problem quick-loading after death (sadly a far-too-frequent event!) but I do find the save/load times get slower and slower as the game progresses.
I had the same thing in Divine Divinity too, and just assumed it was because I'd explored more of the game world so there was more to save, but it seemed to happen from quite early on this time.
