Pickpocket (in my opinion anyway) is actually one of the best skills available in the game.
Even if YOU don't want to invest in it, have one of your summoning dolls invest a point in it (unless you're one of those three players out there that actually USE the summoning dolss of course).
There's a nice little bug (at least I assume it's a bug) that allows you to pickpocket unlimited gold and other stackable items. Just press Ctrl when you pickpocket stackable items, and then make sure you always leave at least ONE of whatever you're trying to steal in the traders inventory. This way the gold/arrows/... you've stolen doesn't actually count as a stolen item and you can do it over and over again. This way you won't have to bother picking up items you won't use anyway and certainly won't send you running to the merchants because all that stuff you've been carrying around just gets to heavy...
Anyway, if anyone wants to invest points in identify/... they have the right to do just that. Anyone is entitled to their own way to play the game...
