Larian Studios Forums Beyond Divinity (English) Technical Problems Freeze before I can start the game

Hey,

like many many others my BD freezes when I get the "Create Character" screen (sometimes even at the "loading" screen, but very occasional). I can't even play the game.

I have tried to set my bitrate to 16 (no result) tried different resolutions (no result).

I have a NVidia Geforce 2 MX 100/200 and downloaded the latest drivers. I'm suspecting it has something to do with my graphicscard, but I'm not too sure about that.
My MB is a MSI 845 Pro2-R (Pentium 4). My friend told me I should download the latest MB drivers, but I don't really know what drivers I should be looking for (RAID update,... ?)

I have figured out it's my Geforce2 MX200 64SDram.

I've downloaded the nVidia Drivers, but they don't seem to recognize my card and are not able to do the windows logotest (?) with succes -> drivers not succesfully installed.

All this [nocando] started when I updated to DX 9.0

Any one any sollutions ?

hello, i'm sorry to hear that u're having problem with the game.

if it's alright with u, can u let me know what version of NVidia driver that u've downloaded & install. i also have problems with 2 of my geforce2 mx200 cards at work, which were identified wrongly as quadro.

what i did was to force windows to accept the new drivers, even with warnings.

may i know what operating system as well as RAM size that your system has? someone has mentioned that u need at least 512MB of RAM for the game to run without much hitch. very unrealistic, i know, but until more step up to confirm/refute this, i cannot say more.

I downloaded the 61.77_win2kxp_international.exe nVidia drivers (latest version on the nvidia.com website) and also tried an older driver (can't seem to find what version it was, could be it wasn't the right driver anyway) with no succes.

My OS is WinXP (WinXP seems to automaticly recognize my card as a "Geforce2 MX100/200" (but I have a MX200 64SDRam), even when I install the drivers nothing changes about the MX100/200 setting.)
I have 256 RAM which is like half of what you would need then...

It seems like I have the problem with all my games that require 3D because Half Life seems to freeze too before I can even play the game.

it appears that RAM size (or lack of it) may be your problem as i know 256MB is a bare minimum for Win XP. u may need another 256MB just to make your system stable enough for any application to run without hitches. i know of some CAD programs that will give u nonsensical errors just because u don't have enough RAM though they may not crash on u.

so far i've yet 2 resolve my own <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> crash problem. i'm using Win Me with 384MB of RAM. i may have to increase RAM size & update the OS.

if u can borrow a piece of RAM from a friend to try the theory of 'Not Enough RAM Will Cause You Lifetime Trauma', u may be able to find out if RAM is your problem or it's just me & my fleeting sanity. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

edit: since winXP ID'ed your card as geforce 2 mx100/200, then it's ID'ed correctly. u don't have to worry about that part anymore. wish i can help u more.

If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems?

Check out the topic below, or search online, for information on doing a clean driver re-install. Hopefully if this problem is due to the graphics drivers, that would fix it.

The MB drivers your friend was probably referring to are the chipset drivers. Check MSI's web site and see if they list updated drivers or BIOS under support for that MB.

Try Windows Update and check if an update is available for DX9... Also, for the nVidia drivers, I remember I had lots of troubles running Diablo 2 on my TNT2, the solution was to use old drivers. It seems that sometimes backward compatibility for nVidia drivers is not optimal, and the older the card is, the higher the risk is...

Lots of web sites provide old versions of drivers, it should not be too hard to find.
