Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game, even if they don't seem likely to interfere?

At least in the North American and UK English versions, the CD Key error that comes up when disk 1 is in the drive is simply a poorly worded error message from the Starforce copy protection, meaning that it can not find the play CD / disk 2 in an optical drive.

If you are getting the same error on 2 different systems, it means either there is something wrong with the CD itself (though apparently not sever enough to prevent the game from installing), or both computers have optical drives that have a problem with the copy protection.

Check the CD for scratches, or even fingerprints. If there is nothing physically wrong with the CD, follow Drealmer's advice and email Larian (support@larian.com).
In the 'No Disk Found' error message, click on the 'Information' button, then when that finishes, click the 'View Report' button. Save the resulting text file somewhere, optionally zip it, and email it to Larian with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic.
