Game Crashes when I try to open skill panel !
This happens on different computers with different OS (winXP/98/2000 i mean)
It seems to be that it does not depend on system configuration
SO is there solution for this problem ???????

welcome! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

That's pretty weird. Do you get a message? Or anything? Try emailing suppourt, see what they say.

Perhaps on all comps the drivers aren't the new or right ones?

if all else fails ( wait for suppourt to reply too) return to store for a new disc.

Did you install the patch? (this is not on the list of known/fixed problems, AFAIK)

What do you mean by crash, exit to desktop or lockup? If the latter, how long did you wait? Try a few minutes, at least, to see if it really is locking up, or if it is just taking too long to open the skill pane.

Check the CDs for scratches, etc. Were there any error messages during install?
Check if there are files called debug.lst or error.txt In the Beyond Divinity folder.

Did you try different skill classes or different difficulty settings? Changing the available skills or starting skill points might make a difference, but probably would not.

Do you have the latest video drivers, service packs and critical updates for the different computers?

You could try verifying the installed files;

The install program should report any problems, such as CRC errors, during install. However, if it fails to do so, or a file becomes corrupt after installation, the integrity of the files can still be verified using a program such as FileCheck; download (194KB). This is a small freeware program (no install required) to calculate the CRC-32 values (the cyclic redundancy check used in zip files) of a number of files. It can also compare a previously calculated CRC file with a set of files/folders.

After doing a clean install of BD and rebooting, I deleted the files in the '..\Beyond Divinity\DirectX9' folder (since they are not needed if/once DirectX 9 is installed). Then I used FileCheck to create a crc file of the game folders, installed the 1.45 patch and did so again, both before starting the game. If you compare the appropriate CRC file to your install, it should tell you if there are any corrupt files. You do not need to worry about moving any saved games out of the savegames folder or deleting the files in the dynamic folders, since new files will not be tested by FileCheck, just those listed in the crc file. If you have started the game and changed any options, there will be differences reported in the config.div and keylist.txt files. In my install the '..\Beyond Divinity\Editor\dgen_themes.000' file was also reported to be different.

There are several files in the Beyond Divinity folder created when the game is started or options are changed, including init.cfg, mapids.000, persist.dat, sinfo.000, slashed-d3d6.cfg, slashed.cfg, sound.cfg and starlog.txt. A couple other files are also added, but another crc file including these wouldn't help much, since most or all are system or option dependent, so these files would usually be reported as different regardless of being valid or corrupt.
At least the config.div, slashed.cfg and slashed-d3d6.cfg files in the Beyond Divinity folder can be deleted, and the configuration program / game will recreate them the next time it is started.

Beyond Divinity CRC files (190 KB)
[*] These crc files are based on the UK English version; the North American version should be the same, I think, and the Australian version not too different (it uses a different copy protection).
[*] FileCheck expects the files to be in the original locations to verify, so if you installed BD to a location other than the default (C:\Program Files\Larian Studios\Beyond Divinity), open the CRC file in Wordpad (for example), and do a search-and-replace so the file/folder paths match your install.

If your CRC values match, it is not the game itself, but likely a conflict with something else in your system or a problem in the saved game folder. When examining the list of 'errors' FileCheck produces, potential problem files would be those with an error trying to read, or with a large size difference (especially zero byte files) from the known good install.

Game crashes to desktop (no hang up)

Game version is 1.45 !
As far as i know it's the latest patch !
I play localized version. It has been localized by russian company named "Buka".
there are no scratches on disc. (I've bought it lately)
There is readme.txt file from "Buka". There is description of this bug there.
It says that this bug is in the original version too.

So they have recommended me to wait for the patch which fix this bug.

Yes, 1.45 is the latest patch. I do not recall seeing this problem mentioned before for the English version, though I suppose it could be an issue with the Russian version of Windows.

I have had the same problem with my nForce 1 based motherboard (ASUS A7N266-C).

The errors I would get tells me DxHelp.exe had a problem, and now will terminate. That was under Windows ME. I am dual booting my system using Partition magic boot manager. I can boot into either WinME or Win XP Pro. Both OS's are up to date and the latest drivers <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> too.

I have also tried <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> installed into both operating systems. The game just CTD's under XP without any error messages, whilst under ME I would get the DxHelp error message.

I am also unable to play the game, and unable to return it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

Got the same problem, same game verision, and, of course the same country. Crashes in different situations, not only in skills...

Something like that was with the Divine:Divinity, I solved it... but how? forgot it. Today will start with drivers changing. If i`ll got over it, will send a message.

i got this last week with divine divinity, except it was when i attempted to open a trade window with anyone. Raze was very helpful but nothing worked except to delete my save game. I had two characters going, one character was fine, the other one would crash to desktop when trading. So i deleted all savegames, started a new character and it all works fine. You could try removing your savegame (copy it to the desktop or something) so that IF that solves the problem, you can start afresh, and if it doesn't solve the problem, you don't have to lose your characters.

So, i got over it...
My solution, maybe, isn`t easiest, but it works:
1. native video card drivers (GF Ti4200)
2. directx _8.1_ (not 9, that comes with the game)
3. screen resolution 1600*...

so, as i said, it works.
