i am in no way telling you how to run your character(s), but here are a couple ideas.
remember i posted about the ability to 'sell back' your skills. keep this in mind.
at the end of the game i had 44 and 45 skillpoints for my characters. i finished at level 35+ (which i believe is quite high) in hardcore mode.
use (maybe) 38-40 skillpoints as a 'design' total for your character.
there are certain skills that are fun and/or useful to play around with such as pickpocket, identify, repair and alchemy that at most should be used and then immediately 'sold'. personally, i wouldn't even bother with identify or repair (just pay a merchant), and alchemy only when i have holy water (for making permanent potions).
becuase the skilltree is so large and so diverse, i found it greatly to my advantage to focus on a minimal number of skills - this creates the most powerful (though perhaps less diverse) characters - as long as they compliment each other.
DK (melee) had his 45 skillpoints split into 4 skills, while ZAN (bow) had her 44 in 5.
if your large map 'blackens' upon re-entering the BFs, you need not 'walk' the entire area again to uncover it - just put your cursor all the way to the edge of your screen (that is blackened) and let the game 'scroll' back over the area. this will re-clear it.
