I have Beyond Divinity since last week. I cannot go in Act 2, because first act is extremely boring and without inspiration. I just kill monsters. This is the meaning of the game or I should expect to have nice moments finishing Act 1 ?
I only recently finished Act 1 myself, but I had a couple of fake starts trying to identify how certain skills and character configurations work, so I've kind of run through it several times already.
A couple of notes that might help you.
1. Reconsider - there is a lot more to this game than meets the eye. Much like Divine Divinity, there is some hidden depth that you might ignore if you thought/tried this game as a hack and slash like Diablo, or even Sacred. I understand your feelings, in some areas I was a little dismayed as well, at first.
2. This game really shines when you realize it's a great RPG- pick your character types with a clear image in mind and stick to it. I started playing "for real" with a bladethief and ranger (archer at first/nature spells for later), and by staying "in character" with my skill choices and fighting style, the game is much more interesting. (poison and sneaking are COOL. no really, they are. really.)
3. Play on Hardcore !!! Sometimes you get multiple skill points, making characters more interesting and fun, in my opinion, and there are more monsters per encounters, which means you get more items and experience. There is more danger, better tactical decisions to be made, but not really more encounters, so it's just as fast to fight through, in practice.
4. Not fighting is sometimes rewarding as well, don't feel like the battlefields are an obligation, most of the time I just run up there to sell stuff or get just a few extra experience points.
5. In Act I there is a good reason not to fight in some cases, where there are quests available for not doing so.
From what I've seen, if your not enjoying the game, it's probably because your not really trying to enjoy it. That sounds a little strange, but for example, some people complain about the battlefields...ok, then ignore the battlefields. If your going to say that you feel "obligated" to do it, then you are totally missing the point of a role playing game.
I hope you give it another shot.
