I have Beyond Divinity since last week. I cannot go in Act 2, because first act is extremely boring and without inspiration. I just kill monsters. This is the meaning of the game or I should expect to have nice moments finishing Act 1 ?

You get a bit more freedom in the later acts, but not much.

I stopped playing right before the end of Act 1, could not get myself to continue it was so boring. After playing and enjoying Divine Divinity i could not believe how this game turned out. Also had to reformat my hd to clean it from all those hidden dll's that were installed without my permission which would not uninstall no matter what I tried. Well maybe DD2 would be better?

You mean Starforce files, yes? I believe there's a cleaner for it somewhere.

Yes, the cleaner is here : http://www.larian.com/riftrunner/support/SFclean.zip

But, keep in mind that Beyond Divinity and a lot of other recent games require StarForce, uninstalling it will cause these games to reinstall it as soon as they are run.

Yes I tried the uninstaller and it did not work on my machine even after executing it a number of times and rebooting, those starforce files did not go anywhere. I only play rpg games and not even first person type games don't like them.
Oh how I was waiting for this game and in the end being so disappointed by bugs, Starforce and the battlefields which were totally useless in my opinion.
So I had to reformat my hd and start from scrach, but now i will be more carefull. It was a learning experience for me after I found out about Starforce from this forumn.

I only recently finished Act 1 myself, but I had a couple of fake starts trying to identify how certain skills and character configurations work, so I've kind of run through it several times already.

A couple of notes that might help you.

1. Reconsider - there is a lot more to this game than meets the eye. Much like Divine Divinity, there is some hidden depth that you might ignore if you thought/tried this game as a hack and slash like Diablo, or even Sacred. I understand your feelings, in some areas I was a little dismayed as well, at first.

2. This game really shines when you realize it's a great RPG- pick your character types with a clear image in mind and stick to it. I started playing "for real" with a bladethief and ranger (archer at first/nature spells for later), and by staying "in character" with my skill choices and fighting style, the game is much more interesting. (poison and sneaking are COOL. no really, they are. really.)

3. Play on Hardcore !!! Sometimes you get multiple skill points, making characters more interesting and fun, in my opinion, and there are more monsters per encounters, which means you get more items and experience. There is more danger, better tactical decisions to be made, but not really more encounters, so it's just as fast to fight through, in practice.

4. Not fighting is sometimes rewarding as well, don't feel like the battlefields are an obligation, most of the time I just run up there to sell stuff or get just a few extra experience points.

5. In Act I there is a good reason not to fight in some cases, where there are quests available for not doing so.

From what I've seen, if your not enjoying the game, it's probably because your not really trying to enjoy it. That sounds a little strange, but for example, some people complain about the battlefields...ok, then ignore the battlefields. If your going to say that you feel "obligated" to do it, then you are totally missing the point of a role playing game.

I hope you give it another shot.

Well, I'm currently stuck in Act I, have no idea how far in. I'm at the point where I have to get through the main door of the barracks/training area and can't seem to figure out how to get it open. I'll try again later.

As for the game itself, I have to say that I'm intrigued with it. Frankly, it's kicking my butt and is anything but easy playing in Tactical mode. I guess it's just getting used to the adjustment from DD because I'm doing much better now. Still, the game seems very unforgiving in that you think you're character is safe and the next second you're reloading.

I'm currently undecided on the battlefields mode as yet. I've done one dungeon and it was pretty dull (not to mention easy) and I got a whole lot of money out of it and some nice items. I would say that it makes the game too easy, except I'm getting my butt kicked anyway, so perhaps I need the help. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Anyway, I'm still really trying to understand how things work. I'm the kind of gamer (old-school wargamer) who likes to know all the rules up front and I'm still trying to figure out how things work so I can create good characters. Right now I'm trying a Paladin warrior/Dark Knight mage combo which I think I'm going to stick with. It's had enough to keep me interested so far and I've enjoyed interacting with the various NPCs and the like.

About your question have a look at this thread :
West door to freedom

If you think that the game is too easy you can change the mode and play the hardcore mode.
You can also play the game without visiting the Battlefields.

At the end of the game you can play the Battlefields keeping the end level of your char.
