Hm, Third Age ? Tolkien didn't wriite much about it, only hints mostly. In the books published by his son Christopher there might be more of it in it, but I don't own them, so I don't know.

Having read a good bit about BG: Dark Alliance 2 I decided to go get it. Found it in the preowned section of a shop for 44 euro (normally 60) and got a james bond game for 20 with that, then I got Beyond Good and Evil for free - (buy 2 preowned get the cheapest free).

Very surprised by Beyond Good and Evil, plays great, looks great, and the characters are great! Guess that makes it great!

How many acts in BG: DA 2? Playing a Barb at the mo wielding 2 weapons.

Ah, Beyond Good and Evil, my console love . Can you believe this game sold badly?

Dark Alliance 2 has 4-5 acts, I think.

Yes, DA2 has the equivalent of 5 acts. There's a prologue that takes place over several locations, then 4 numbered acts, if I remember rightly.

Something like 40 'levels' or locations within those Acts.

Thank ye for the dark alliance info...only on act 2 as yet. Hackety hack hack...wish there were more items though.

Maybe Beyond good and evil sold badly because of the main character. Normal looking lass as the main character(no mega hot babe big boob stereotyping) - people probably thought it was a game for girls or something. Some guys are like that...great characters in it, and the gameplay is very original in its way.

I must try Beyond Good and Evil again. I have the PC version, and only got as far as the first save point before abandoning it to play something else.

I found the controls and the way it all worked very alien compared to the games I usually play - perhaps that shows that the game was designed for consoles (if it was??).

But all the reviews I've read, and also players comments, all agree that it is an excellent and much under-rated and overlooked title. I must dig it out and try again. Thanks for the prompt.

Hi,

For those Xbox owners out there I just got new Lord of the Rings game, the third age.

Having checked all the reviews so far it didn't do too badly, average of about 7 to 8 out of ten so being a huge rings fan I got it and I think the reviews are all very accurate.

It's a turn based combat similar game to final fantasy. It seems basic at first, but as your characters develop the stat and skill system opens up giving you a lot more options. There are some great battle moments and scenes (Balrog anyone?) though there are some repetitive battles too...lots of orcs and gobins.

The game world looks amazing, especially when trudging through Moria (haven't got beyond that yet) and seeing recreations of areas in the film, but my only big gripe overall is that theres almost no interaction with the world beyond opening chests and the occasional cut scene that takes place in certain areas.

Also due to one review saying it was too easy on the normal level I started from hard and found myself fighting hard to win some battles and having to use all the items and skills available to me in order to win, which is a good thing because normally in these games you just hoard items you'll never use.

Still in Moria (game is huge BTW - some saying about 30-40 hours) but I think it's worth getting if you like Rings and this kind of game. Could have been a bit deeper, but they tried to make it accessible to all the fans who probably aren't big gamers. But knock it up to hard from the start and you'll have to think your way through a lot of fights which is a good thing.

Ok, since fable, halo 2, and other games are out on the xbox, makes me start to think I should get one. Is there something really, really bad about them I should know before I try it?

Well, if you are dissatisfied with the Xbox, you can always run Linux on it.
