This post may ramble. Furhtermore, I don't know if it should be in the technical board section or the suggestion section.

I must say that Divine Divinity was one of the most refreshing surprises I have ever encountered with a video game. I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish.

So, I waited until the 1.45 patch came out and started Beyond Divinity. I agree with all the usual complaints from people on these boards (voice-acting, linear style, etc). But I still had a lot of fun in Act I. I enjoyed the battlefields (although I don't really see the point).

Now for the problems. Act II is nearly becoming unplayable. I am a hardcore, experienced gamer. My computer is state of the art as is my cooling system. All drivers are current. Every game I play runs flawlessly.

Four things are consistently happening to me in battles with more than one enemy. The battle occurs. I lose my minimap. My computer restarts. Or the point of view is sent to another portion of the map that I cannot return from.
For those interested, I am in the Battlefields. These hiccups are starting to happen every 4 or 5 minutes now. I am very near to giving up on the game.

On top of these problems, I tend to lose portions of my main map at random which can be very frustrating. The only way to show those areas again is to re-explore those empty areas. And that, for lack of a better word, sucks.

If these problems are a result of cost-cutting/budget restraints....well that is a sad economical state of affairs for gaming. I purchase every game I play. I respect and admire those who create games.

I guess my point is that BD is becoming unplayable through no fault of mine or my computer. I blame Larian on two levels. First, I hold them to the standard of DD (which basically blew my mind). Second, they should have not released such a shoddy product.

As, I said...I respect Larian. The reason for this post is that I hope there is another installment. And I hope that installment mirrors DD rather than BD. The amazing thing about DD is that I was placed in this virtual world and I could attack it any way I chose. BD doesn't have that same feel to it.

hi niner
i can't address most of your post, but i can comment on two items.
there is no fix for the explored areas to quickly become as they should be - explored...but you needn't (usually) re-explore/re-walk. simply take your cursor to the edge of your monitor (thus scrolling land area) and let it go. this saves a lot of time walking as the areas are really not covered again by the fog-of-war.

second. sometimes in battles you'll find yourself suddenly with a black screen except for the character portraits in the top right corner. if this happens, double click on one of the portraits, it'll re-center (or clear. not really sure which is taking place with this bug).
remember to click the 'group' button again.

hope this helps. the blackened explored area thing happens primarily in the BFs and if you look close at your map you'll see it's not the graduated fog-of-war black, it's straight lined rectangular boxes.
