Ok I know I started out with a mage. But I found out that I liked just going in and fighting face to face a little more. The only problem is, I am getting beat up badly lol. I buy every health potion I can find and I still keep running out. I haven't really invested into constitution yet, I am only level 5 or so and I am fighting in the catacombs. I have invested most of my stat points into strength/agility. How far should I raise my constitution?
Also I plan on using swords only, should I go for the sword/shield combo or two handed swords?
Also would just like to say that the game is amazing so far, but I don't think I am very far into the game yet lol.

Did you start over with a warrior or convert your mage? If you restarted, the warrior's swirl attack is handy when you get surrounded, and you can hit and run so you are only taking on a few opponents at a time. A bow can be handy for that early in the game, or you can exit the town and level up a bit on the orcs outside (though I would not go very far south, since you will run into a couple much stronger ones there). differences between classes (minor spoilers) Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version) (contains much of the information in the above topic). Eventually, restoration potions will become more effective that health or mana potions. For now, try leaving one teleporter stone near a bed, and teleport back and forth to sleep/heal. Did you cure both soldiers in town, and do the other quests? Did you loot (and steal from George) to get some starting equipment? You can kill the rabits and cow for some experience, though at level 5 you may not get much (on level 1 they would give 50 experience points each). I would raise your constitution a bit at the start of the game, but once you start getting better equipment, you will likely get a good portion of your hit points from equipment bonuses and/or charms. I started with a sword and shield, then switched to a 2 handed sword for the better damage, and eventually switched back after getting a decent damage one handed sword. This had a little lower damage, but allowed me to equip a shield for the added protection and bonuses.

Endorsed!
The starting stats for constitution really is too low to comfortably move around. Personnally, I would raise it to about 20/25, after which equipment and charms will do.
On the swords, it's really a matter of taste - if you use one-handed sword and shield, then you could invest in the shield skill for some extra damage-points - but either way is absolutely manageable (there is an abundance of swords of all types with magic extras to be found later)

Thanks a ton for the great info, I have made it out of the catacombs with my trusty bow and just found a dagger with mana drain so I can chain heal myself

I'm curious about the one-handed swords. I am one member away from completing the council quest, and I have some pretty potent two-handed swords (108-153, 67-113, with good modifiers), but I have some pretty good shields as well, so I'm wondering what type of one-handed swords are considered good? What type of damage is considered high? While we're at it, I've been playing with the dragon armour for a while, loading, letting him put the gem in it, checking the stats and trying again, you know. Last night I was bored and tried maybe 20 or thirty reloads, and not once did I get stats that made the dragon breastplate better than the dwarven one I have. Anybody else? I thought if we posted our best stuff, where we are and what level, it would be interesting to see who has been the luckiest with the random loot factor.
My Bastord sword (68-113) is great, with 4 charms, 20% protect from fire and poison, +6 Strength and a few others, but it's the mana drain that I find useful since I'm a warrior with mage skills but not many points into intelligence.
Blade Of Chaos is the 108-153, with 2 charms and good mods, but no mana drain.
Besides the dragon shield I have some other shields with 350 armour...is that pretty standard?

For one handed swords that are always in the game, like the holy sword, the maximum damage is 71-100. It is possible to buy random swords from merchants, or random drops, that go up to around 110 or 120 (IIRC) damage.
I think 350 is a good armour class for a shield (I had 280). My equipment at the end of the game consisted of the following;
Sword Of The Gods - found in a house in the wastelands. DeathBlow shakes the screen; had this happened more frequently, I would have had to re-load a previous save.
Durability 24 Charm Quality 1 Damage 71-100 4 Strength 6 Agility 6 Intelligence 4 Constitution 4 Offense 100 Vitality 60 Magic DeathBlow(3) LifeDrain(5)
Breastplate Of The Dragonheart
Durability 12 Charm Quality 3 Armour 440 2 Defense 100 Vitality 60 Magic 15 Resistance to Fire 40 Resistance to Lightning 15 Resistance to Spirit 4 Hearing Survivors Instinct +1
Breastplate Of The Dragon - before the upgrade
Durability 30 Charm Quality 1 Armour 390 6 Strength 6 Intelligence 60 Vitality 100 Magic 15 Resistance to Lightning 15 Resistance to Poison 2 Hearing Heaven's gift +1

Ruby Ring - from the house north of the cursed Abby
Durability 10 Charm Quality 4 4 Strength 60 Vitality 40 Magic

With re-loading, I got both the nobleman's sword as well as the swords of the gods with damage range up to 110 - though I generally picked to keep one with lesser damage for the better magic improvements and/or more charm slots.

Thanks, knowing what to look for in a one handed sword gives me something to aim for. My best save with the Breastplate of the Dragonheart is:
Charm 2 Armor 390 Chance to hit 25 +2 Strength +8 Agility +5 Defense +60 Vitality +20 Magic +5 Res Poison +15 Res Spirit +3 Hearing
I have a Dwarven Breastplate that is better in the places I need, but getting the Dragon Helm is worth it.
I got the Shield with 350 Armor almost at the beginning of the game, and I'm glad I hung on to it.
