You should still have the weapon - but if you look into your equipment, it's red - meaning, you don't have the requirements to use it. After the spell wears off, you have everything as it was. At least, this was my XP. When I was diseased, I used "the spiritual hammer spell" to stun the enemy and move out of that cloud until it wore off.
