The threadname sais it all, don't you think? Yes, this thread is about Metallica ( )... I meant, what arrows should I use with my archer. I just realized (happy lvl 5) that the craftmanchip and range specialization (did I spell that correctly? Maybee, maybee not.) isn't the same skill. The craftmanchip skill will make shure you one day will have just the heck of alot of one arrow type. And then you would like to be able to use that arrow type...
Question is: what arrow type is the best (and it's not forbidden to in this thread discuss the matter. To tell me how the convert arrow skill(s) work isn't forbidden either...)?

Ubereil

PS Anty other skills you recomand? And that's not just for my archer (I have a death knight with a two-hand sword too, you know. Or, perhaps you don't...). DS

I played archer, but didn't use convert arrow, as I could steal the arrow types I wanted. I mainly used splitting, poison, explosive arrows.

Didn't specialise on one arrow type spec as well. Only for the end battle, I went for poison arrow, as I liked it.

Why not convert? Isn't it easier than steal?

No, I had pickpocket as a start skill (warrior/survivor) and gamer Drizzt here had a nice cheat => hover your mouse over what you want to steal (stacked items) - push CTRL and then type in a number smaller than the max. Doesn't count as stealing then, so you can steal an unlimited amount - normally pickpocket it restricted to item and NPC lvl.

Taking pickpocket as my secondary skill and then leaving it at lvl 4 in Act 3 was sufficient for me to get as many arrows as I wanted.

Thief!!!!

*says she who has just started the game about 2 hours ago (AGAIN) and is already sitting on Level 8 pickpocket.... *grin* thanks for d cheat *

I changed my arrow types according to what the main type of creature in the area was.. EG. fire elementals with water arrows... etc... but i did use LOTS more of explosive, poison and shadow... most creatures were vulnerable to these

I also specialised in having scorpion traps everywhere... its very handy when you running from 10 ugly nasty monsters...

So you say I should invest skills in pickpocket and tyhen cheat to get arrows?!?!? (That's really playing the good guy rpg style...) Anyway,You say I should use poison, explosives and shadow (or split)? What about power arrows? I don't know anything about the different arrowtypes, what they do and so on (I must say, larians info about the skills are really insuffisient. And then I'm being kind. They COULD have put up some descriptions on the skills other than bowspecialization increase you're bowskills. For example: what is point blank? How do you preform it? How often do you preform it? etc.)

When you use a ranged weapon at close range, there is a penalty to the damage you can do (IIRC it was cut in half when I checked it, against a couple particular monster types). Skill points in Point Blank automatically increase the damage you can do at close (melee) range, and reduce or eliminate this penalty.

Use the green ones that make a lazer sound and shoot through walls.

i used splitting arrows almost exclusively. there were a couple places i used ethereal also, but 99.9% of the game, splitting was it.
yes, i tried all other types too.
you absolutely want to put a couple points into 'point blank'.
here is a replayed monster, 3 ways. 'at distance ', 'close withOUT point blank' and close WITH point blank.
the damage difference is 66 points at dist., 55 close WITH, and 35 close withOUT point blank. these shots were taken early on in the game and point blank matters more as you proceed.
my archers ending skills were (44 skill points): piercing 12; critical hit 12; reload time 12; point blank 4; splitting arrows 4.
with a good bow and good agility you'll kill everything.
set your archer to 'aggressive', non-leader.

Convert arrows:
25 arrows at lvl 1
12.5 arrows at level 2
8.33 at level 3
6.25 at level 4
5 at lvl 5

Now, imagine, you spend 4 skill pts for convert arrows. You can only convert ONE arrow type. At pickpocket lvl 4 you can steal ANY arrow type.

Uebereil, I'm not telling you you should learn pickpocket - but I'd not spend precious skill, pts on converting one arrow type, if the same amount of skill pts in another skill would be of more use IMO. You can choose to put 4 skill pts into archery instead, or arrow spec - and simply buy the arrows you like to shoot.

Green => poison arrows.

Desdemona’s website

This site has some decent info about the damages etc of weapons

I agree with my fellow pickpocket proficient chum its much easier to aquire them using alternative methods to what the church suggest.

I found splitting arrows nice to use in crowds.... but i found them inferior to the damage that explosive or poison does.

Oh, I killed a paladin in the Cursed Abbey (NW corner) by shooting arrows through the wall - green/poison - and that crossbow skeleton archer as well

i agree lady that splitting do less damage per arrow - but when you times them by 4 plus, they simply have no match .
and you're very right about crowds . you needn't even see them!
