The "Meet Zandalor In The Dwarven Bread Inn Tavern" quest is an auto fail I think. No matter how quickly you get there he will be at Stormfist Castle. So I wouldn't worry about that quest. And for the 'Fireworks' I chose not to do that quest for the same reasons that you listed. And everything has went fine since then. And for the Balin's necklace quest, I got that one too early, I wanted to kill Balin for the other quest given by the thief. But he ended up demolishing me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />. And I am pretty sure you have to choose between one or the other. I am going to kill Balin when I am a little bit stronger just because he is a jerk.
