Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

What resolution is your desktop and game at? Some people have had a problem with DirectX switching resolutions, that could be avoided by setting the game and desktop resolution to be the same.

If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems?

Do you have any video filters installed? At least the ReClock DirectShow Filter needs to be disabled to play the game videos. In Windows Explorer, if you browse to the '..\Beyond Divinity\Static' folder, can you view the 'intro.mpg' video?

Lady_Rain describes an MS patch for video related problems in the topic CRASHING TO WINDOWS

Check if there are files called debug.lst or error.txt In the Beyond Divinity folder.

My humble thanks for mentioning me.... i hope that will help, also i have lately found that the new release of DirectX 9.0c fixes a couple of other crash related bugs in some other games...
available from here (Microsoft)

Hope this fixes the problem, if not, somehow we will find and fix the problem <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Try deleting the files config.div, slashed.cfg and slashed-d3d6.cfg in the Beyond Divinity folder (if they exist), to force the configuration program to recreate them.

The 'unable to read configuration file' error can be cause by having a divx movie player associated with .div files.

hi, I am having the same problem with configuration - ie, message 'Beyond Divinty has encountered a problem Configtool MFC Application' when i try to test. have got directx9. have tried reinstalling. have got latest patch (English). a couple of things concerning me... I received 2 CD's with the game - just checking there shouldn't be a third one (as with Divine Divinity which i ran successfully). Also, I am located in Australia, but ordered the game from the UK - I don't need an Aus patch do I?

I tried looking for those files to delete, but couldn't find them. Please help!!!

Hi salsaqueen,

You don't need the Australian patch but the English patch which you can download over here.
(You are sure you don't have an Australian game? Please have a look at the logo of the publisher. Digital Jesters=UK version, QV Software=Australian version, HIP Interactive=US version, which is the same game version as the UK version)

A crash occuring with "test" or "apply and close" in the config tool is probably due to a problem with the drivers of your video card. Installing the latest drivers should fix the problem.

If this doesn't help you, please send an email to support@larian.com with a description of your problem. We will have a closer look into your problem.

Our apologies for the inconvenience you experience with the game.

I have had the same problem on and off since playing the game. Every Now and then when I exit the game I get the error saying it did not shut down bla bla. when I start it I just have to rerun the configuration tool and close - save and continue on playing. It can get to be a pain but has not affected any of the same games so I just press on and keep going forward.

Good Luck and Fun Gamin.

There are only 2 CDs. BD has 3D character models, which take up much less disk space than the series of 2D sprite animations required for each character in DD.

Yes, DD has 3 CDs, in part due to the 2D sprite animations required for each character (install disk 2 contains the data for the male and female warriors, male and female survivors and the male wizard).

BD uses 3D characters, which take up less disk space, so fits on 2 CDs.
