Here's a list that I've compiled of bugs and problems with BD. Some points are clearly bugs while some are just my personal views on the game.
My setup is Win2K, 2.6GHz, 512MB, GeForce 4200 Ti. All the latest drivers etc.
- The configuration tool tries to contact crl.microsoft.com
- I can't get FSAA. The configuration tool, I choose my desired FSAA level, I test, apply & close, when starting the tool again, it says FSAA: 0...
- After installing and restarting, when clicking the BD icon, a dialog (for StarForce3?) says that I need to restart. What, are two restarts really necessary?
- After the intro movie has finished, I see the deathknight & paladin picture
for a second or two, the loading progress bar goes to 10% or something, and then
it just exits, no error dialog or anything, just back to the desktop.
This was in Win2K, when switching to my other OS, WinXP with SP2 Beta, it seems to work fine.
- The StarForce3 disk check takes a full minute with my DVD-player, yes, 60 seconds. That's enough to bore me to death, sitting here, looking at that progress bar, listening to my dvd-player whining...
- No way to change mouse sensitivity...
- Can not "go to" on the minimap. While doing some inventory business, I accidentally scrolled way off the screen, into the dark. Right-clicking on the minimap would've been an easy way of centering the screen, but that didn't work. Pressing X did the trick though.
- Pressing ESC doesn't close the Inventory screen, or any other screen.
I think it should close the screens, and if no screens are open, it should go to the main menu.
- My characters were attacked by a rat, they just stood there looking stupid while the rat bit them. They should defend themselves automatically when attacked. I later found the "Aggressive" thing, it was hidden away good in the interface. But still, even if you're on "Normal", they should defend themselves when attacked, no?
- The inventory window should have a "Show All" button.
- Sometimes after loading a game and I go to the Inventory, ALL my items are in the view, insted of just the Clothes & Armor. It's a complete mess. After clicking on some other tab and then going back to the Clothes & Armor tab, it's back to the way it should be again.
- When out of mana for the primary attack it says "I need to recover mana"...
Why not execute the secondary (sword) attack instead?
- Party control. Deathknight in a room with a hole in the ground. Paladin in
another room. Between them are enemies. Deathknight climbs down hole... change
of scene to cave... now they are BOTH in the cave!! This opens up many ways to cheat...
- Ctrl-S for Quicksave almost never works on the first press. Press it again and it works.
- The UI says that the second level of the Hammer spell makes damage 61 - 123, but actually it's just 67 - 69... well, many spells has this kind of calculation error...
- When pressing the Identify button in the Trade dialog window, it would be nice to see only the items that need identification... so that I don't have to scroll through my list of hundreds of items...
- The filter buttons would be useful in the Trade dialog window as well...
- I get "Item acquired" a lot after finishing a quest. Eh, WHICH item?
How to find this new item among the myriad of items that I have? Not fun, so I usually just ignore that message. A suggestion would be to place the item on the ground instead of in the inventory, of perhaps display some stars or something around the new item in the inventory.
- Having to set Aggressive/Peace mode on the summoned creature EVERY TIME it's summoned is stupid, the mode should stay, just like the inventory and other things stay on the creature.
- The summoned creatures are invisible when sneaking...
- The summoned creatures won't fight when sneaking...
- VERY ANNOYING: When I try to make my group attack from far away, the warriors run forward to the enemy and start fighting, no problem there, but my wizard just stand around looking stupid, he does not move from his spot.
I have to move him forward manually by clicking on the ground instead of the enemy. Then, when he's in range, I can click on the enemy and my wizard then starts hurling spells...
- I almost never use the secondary attacks, I have no desire to do that kind of micro-management.
- The black square in the save/load dialog window, there would be a good place to display a mini-screenshot.
- The map (and mini-map) sometimes displays black squares instead of actual map info, in the Battlefields.
- If you Pause the game, then Alt-Tab to Windows, and then go back, the game is not paused any more.
- If you Pause, and save your game, then, after saving is complete, Pause is Off again!
- I found a "Bone Spear" (a weapon), in the shape of a Ring! It was placed under the weapons tab in the inventory, but when I click it, it is placed in one of the Ring slots on my character.
- In the heat of battle, it's far too easy to hit a tibor or frog or cat by mistake, and then you have an army of tibors, frogs or cats after you for the rest of the game?
You shouldn't have to reload just because you accidentally killed a frog...
I must have killed a tibor somewhere earlier, so now I have to waste ALL the tibor's in the imp village...
that doesn't feel right, the imps need their tibor's...
Also, it is very irritating when you're in the middle of a fight, and your wizard wastes all his mana on a frog that suddenly comes into view...
- Elder fire, level 2, 73 - 147 damage? But when I actually add the skill point, it says only 73-74. I don't understand these calculaions...
- The price to unlearn skills should be calculated from the amount of skill points invested in that skill, not the level of the character. Having to pay 20k to get back the point I invested in the useless earthquake
spell that I just used a couple of times seems a bit harsh...
- The summon dolls skills Extra Level and Extra Skill Point: I invested in them when I got the demon, but when I got the raan doll, she didn't get the extra points!
- Cheating with the dolls. When a summoned creature is hurt, I just pause the game, click on the doll (the creature is unsummoned) and then click it again = it's back in action! with full health! no sick time!
- Balancing problem: The magic spells are all kind of useless, I've experimented with them, but can't see any point in investing in any other spell than the simple elemental focused missile spell.
The other spells = less damage & higher mana cost = waste of skill points.
- Too few skill points. You get too few points, thus you cannot afford to "waste" points on skills like identify, elemental defence, evasion etc etc. The few points I get I have to invest in primary offensive skills.
- Casting other spells than the primary/secondary spell is a hassle. You should really create a better system for that.
- I've seen other bugs like items that disappear when you move your mouse pointer over them etc, but I'm tired of writing this list now.
- Didn't you betatest this game? I haven't seen a game this buggy for a long time. Please don't take offence, I'm a developer myself and I understand the immense amount of work involved in a game, especially a RPG, and especially a RPG of this size. Bugs are inevitable, but here they are really lessening the enjoyment I get from the game, and that saddens me, as I've really been looking forward to the game, I mean really!
Divine Divinity was probably the best RPG I've ever played and I've been waiting for this ever since...
Ok, so please view this list as constructive criticism. I might be back later with a list of all the great things in the game, if I feel motivated enough! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Johan E.
