I got fired at my job today I know I did well and I know I made some friends there, so I also know it was personal. My boss simply called me to tell me I don't have to come back again. What a drag! Hopefully this will be an opportunity in disguise.

serious: is it possible to fire someone for no/personal reason(s) then? If that happened in SA, gal would be able to claim up to 6 month's worth of salary.... just because there was no official warning letters etc...

Sorry to hear that Gal, have you received your C4 yet? technically A boss can't fire anyone for no reason in Belgium, Practically he can do what he damn well pleases and say it's 'reorganisation'.
It's one of these days...

Did you sign a contract?
They can't sack you for no proper reason.
My girlfriends sister had started work in a shopping centre, then after about a month there she found out she was about 3 months pregnant. Had to tell the shop of course so she wouldn't be doing lifting and such.
So what did the shop do...sacked her.
They said she was always late and didn't turn up some days. Was completely untrue - result 1 years compensation salary and her job back. She said stuff yer job ya creeps and took the money!

First of all, this job was an internship, so when a contract is done, it's over. In this case I had a weekly contract, had to sign a new one every week. But my contract was from monday to sunday, since we also work in weekends. But since she sacked me on thursday, they still have got to pay me for three days. And since money is such a sensible thing over there, they wont be too happy about it, three days pay and no work delivered?
But don't worry, a Gal always lands back on her feet I can start in a supermarket on saturday. Just keep your thumbs up for me, if that day goes well, I will be accepted for an internship of four months, after that I will get my contract.

That's shoddy that they just got rid of you like that, Gal. Oh well, life will be what it is.
I'm in the middle of changing jobs. I was offered a position at another company with a lot more pay and better quality of work. I'm sad to leave where I am now. My boss is really good to me. I broke the news to him the other week. He asked me if I was being paid significantly more, which I am. he asked how much more and when I told him, his immediate answer was "you're worth it." He couldn't match it to keep me. While I only needed to give two weeks notice, I asked him, how much notice would you like. We agreed on the rest of the year, about two months. This lets us wrap a few existing things up.

Sounds like your boss realizes how lucky he was to have you.
Unfortunatly that doesn't seem to be the case at all at my work, I've been here for 15 months and I've seen as much poeple come and go.
It's one of these days...

A manager from a herbal store in town offered me a job too, she wanted to offer me better payment, and only one sunday to work, but the only thing she couldn't offer me was a contract, this job would only be for 7 weeks. Not nearly enough to keep my paycheck going, cause I can't effort to keep changing jobs every 7 weeks. But it sure felt good to hear that at least someone wanted me for what I'm worth. Keep it up HEF and good luck at the new job!

I must admit that I feel kind of pity for the boss.
