After playing the demo a few weeks ago, I finally got the game itself. After a night of play my survivor is on his way and doing very well with random items so far. The only problem is that I was in such a rush I forgot to name him. I don't want to restart but would like a better handle that Hero. Any tips on where to fix this?

i don't think that you can change his name once you have started the game. either go through the rest of the game with his name hero, or restart the game if it is that big of a deal.

You can change the name using a hex editor;

character name

If you don't already have a hex editor, check out the freeware programs Frhed, XVI32 or those listed here or reviewed on this site.
I use Hackman; the latest 8.x release on the homepage introduces a low file size limit in the freeware version. It is still possible to find the previous 7.x release, though; check here, or search Google for "hack704.zip" or "hack702.zip", etc.

Yes, so is mine. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" /> I was in too much a hurry to start playing and
I missed the screen. I play the blonde female warrior. Hi! Hero. Godspeed, ladyterry <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kitty.gif" alt="" /> [color:"blue"] [/color]

I don't think any of the characters refer to you by name (eg. Baldur's Gate style) , or you even introduce yourself with your name, throught-out the entire game. So I wouldn't worry about it.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> You can always rename him 'Billy' <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

If I remember correctly, in Shakespeare's "Much ado about nothing" there is even a female character whose name is "Hero".

Correct, one of the main 4 characters. So yes, it is a real name.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> Hm, IIRC, Shakespeare's existance is still not solved totally. Some say, it's the actor Christopher Marlowe, others say a Royal had written these plays. And I'm sure, there are more theories that skipped my memory.

But still I like the plays. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

And, yes, to name a Danish Prince "Hamlet" is a bit weird in my ears ... I'd call the overall choice of names rather ... creative. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Much better to be named 'Hamlet' than 'Piglet'. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

O, that this too too solid flesh would melt,
Thaw and resolve itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting had not fix’d
His canon ’gainst self-slaughter! O God! God!
How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable
Seem to me all the uses
Piglet. ACT I Scene 2.

I am thy father’s spirit,
Doom’d for a certain term to walk the night,
And for the day confin’d to fast in fires,
Piglet. ACT I Scene 5.

Yes, 'Hamlet' is a much better name. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

so far as he has not named a roman hero eric all is well...
use of latin name were not so uncommon in this time, even in Denmark, i think
some people had two names the latin and the local ones...
but a roman called eric... well Shakespeare has spared us that anyway!
