And at roughly the halfway mark....

Cleglaw got off to a terrific start with his inspired denouncement of unlicenced arguing about music. I particularly liked "PvP vile sharing ". Clegs is shaping up as a cunning and relentless arguer. On early form he could end up dominating this thread...

However....

Master_Guroth is challenging strongly with some inspired rants that perfectly catch the spirit of an "Argumentative Git". M_G has all the signs of great Heavyweight Arguing Champion in the making, and the smart money appears to be moving in his direction.

Some good contributions by others, but you'll need to apply the whip in the final straight if you want to get your noses across the line first..

I warned you that this would happen. If you want to avoid a lawsuit you had better stop posting in this thread.

Notification of Musical Argument Claims
We are counsel to a group of companies that intend to file a lawsuit against you shortly for musical argument in The Argumentative Git thread. Our clients include the following record companies and their labels and subsidiaries: BMG Music; EMI Music North America; Sony Music Entertainment Inc.; Warner Music Group Inc.; UMG Recordings, Inc.; and Univision Music Group.

We have gathered substantial evidence that you have been using an internet forum such as that run by Larian Studios to argue about music owned by our clients. We are writing in advance of filing suit against you in the event that you have an interest in resolving these claims through settlement.

The record companies take PvP vile sharing very seriously, and for good reason.
PvP vile sharing is not a victimless crime. People spend countless hours working hard to create music – not just recording artists and songwriters, but also session players, backup singers, sound engineers and other technicians. In addition, the music industry employs thousands of other people, such as CD-plant workers, warehouse personnel, record store clerks, and developers of legitimate online music services. They all depend on the sale of recordings to earn a living. So do record companies, which routinely invest millions of dollars to discover and sign promising artists, and then to produce and market their recordings. The playing of "air guitar" or encouraging said practice in your post clearly infringes upon the ability of the music industry to produce financially viable products.

In addition, remarks like "theater should be forbidden," have prompted us to contact the MPAA who will also be joining us in our lawsuit.

Arguing about the music eats away at the investment dollars available to fund new music and, in effect, erodes the future of music In the end, the music suffers, along with everyone who cares about it – from the people who make it to the consumers who enjoy it.

Although we want you to appreciate the harm that musical argument causes, the purpose of this notice is to provide you with the opportunity to resolve this matter and avoid being sued. In deciding whether you wish to discuss settlement, here are some things we believe you should consider:

• Arguing for the invasion of Eastern Europe because of their musical taste constitutes inflammatory neo-nazi rhetoric which is severely punishable, carrying not only civil, but criminal penalties as well.

• Naming a third party such as a family member to justify the possession of legitimate copies of CDs does not absolve you of responsibility in this matter.

• If you choose not to settle the case, you must file a response to the complaint. Failure to respond to the complaint can result in a default judgment being entered against you. That default will include the entry of a monetary judgment and an injunction.

• Now that you are aware that a lawsuit may be filed against you, there is an obligation for you to preserve evidence that relates to the claims against you. In this case, that means, at a minimum, the entire record of all posts that you have made at the Larian Studios as well as any posts you have made at other forums need to be maintained as evidence. The evidence necessary for the record companies to prevail in this action has already been secured. Nevertheless, any destruction of evidence would be a serious matter.

If you have an interest in pursuing settlement discussions to avoid litigation or have other concerns you would like to discuss, you or your attorney may contact us with your potatoes at our corporate headquarters.

If you are under 18, your attorney (or your parent or other guardian) must be present during any discussions. We will assume you are not interested in settlement and proceed to litigation if we do not hear from you within ten (10) calendar days from the date of this letter. We encourage you to consult with an attorney immediately to advise you on your rights
and responsibilities.

I take tthe fact that Hakea didn't mention me as a confirmation on the fact that my strategy failed, and will therefor abandom it (but it was such a good and brilliantly worked through strategy ). Therefor I will instead take the battle with Cleglaw, which no one else has done, and by doing that prove (if not brilliant arguing skills) my enormuos curage and arguing skills (and maybe my arrogance), by challening the athority, with all his giganity, superiocity and ugly sentence combinations. (And I will also try insulting the ref, In case I fail with Cleglaw...) So, here we go, into enemy territory:
Cleglaw, you are TOTALLY WRONG!!! (Take that !!!) Oh whait, that was my old, failed tactic... (Hmm, what point to charge now? Personal insults?) Cleglaw, you are... you are... (Nah, screw it, let's try something else... What a minute... He IS totally wrrong !) Clegclaw, you ARE totally wrong!!! And I will tell you why:
In Sweden we have this thing called freedom of speech. That means you can say basicly anything and get away with it. So, arguing from Sweden I can say basicly anything and get away with it, since I'm in Sweden (if TV 3 can get away with sending commersials for children, which is illegal in Sweden, by sending from GB, where it isn't illegal, then this SHOULD work). And if they whant to sue me, they'll have to come here (allso Swedish law), and if they come here, they will get their a$$ses kicked. I've got the law on my side, AND since I don't earn any money (or, to be correct, UNDER 260 000 (part whith eight to get it in dollars)) I will get my lawyer paid by the Swedish state. So, I've got a lawyer and the law on my side. And since this is Sweden, that is enought (we're one of the LEAST corrupted nations in the world). But for you who lives in the States?
Well, if a guy can try to escape from prison by tie sheets together and try to use them as a rope when climbving out from a window, and then when it breaks and he falls and breaks his legs, can SUE THE PRISON and get it home... Well, then at least I wouldn't be too optimistic.
And, by the whay, so far I have' said anything but "you are TOTALLY WRONG", so what should they sue me for, anywhay?

Übereil

PS Allmost forgot:
Hakea, you are a HYPPOCRITE. DS

Your claim of Swedish nationality is being viewed with suspicion. As you are well aware, there are many artificial Swedeners on the market today. Practically every diet drink or dessert contains one.

I am more than happy with the RIAA lawsuits... i sincerely hope than MPAA will join them in this futile and pathetic but enjoyable fight!

i will probably lose some $s in this or even freedom but it is really worth for assisting to the music industry committing suicide... in the end we (those who think music is evil) will win the last battle...

imagine that:
1st move: tribunals are confirming that RIAA is right
2nd move: all unlicencied public conversations and debate fall under finacial penalties.
3rd move: RIAA realizes the licence may be a much more direct profit source than just the penalties and so decides to double, triple or even more augment the cost of the licence for arguing about music...
4th move: TVs, radios, musical (and not musical) newspapers to avoid losing money decide not to pay these licence...
5th move: nobody i arguing about music anymore... as a matter of fact nobody is speaking about music anyway... by fear of penalities!... after a more or less long time nobody is even listenning to music anymore... because as no one is speaking about it, no one knows what to be listenning to...
6th move: music dies... after the sacrifice of many but it was worth it!

yea i really support the RIAA lawsuits

I wasn't referring to the fact that I am Swede than to the fact that I am in SWEDEN, and therefor OBEY UNDER SWEDISH LAW! (if I ever leave the country I will be in deep $hit though...)
And music wouldn't die, there wopuld be underground discussions, and eventually thre would be a revolution that would end the entire system. If you whant historical examples, take the Soviet Union or East Germany.

The time's not quite up, but I have to be off early in the morning, so it's time to announce the WINNER.

Honorable mention to Ubereil for a fierce and determined late charge. Unfortunately your fatal mistake was to reveal where you live. I once owned a Volvo that broke down in the middle of the night on my way home from the airport - so I'm sure that you will see that it's fair and rational not to award a prize to someone living in Sweden.

Extra honourable mention to Cleglaw for a stunning denouncement of both the music industry and artificial swedeners... I once owned a small store selling music on CDs so have a great deal of sympathy for Cleg's vision of the wonderful people in the record companies...

But, in the end, Master Guroth seemed to have that attractive combination of knowledge mixed with a strong streak of madness that makes for a good arguer. And, to be honest, after looking at those eyes in his avatar for all those posts I feel sure he'd know how to turn me into a toad if he didn't win (well more of a toad anyway...).

Take it away Maestro. New topic please

See you all in a few days. Have fun, and keep arguing.

Ah man . And Volvo isn't even owned by swedes anymore (I think). They have probablyben bought up by Ford or Volswagen or some other major company.
Oh well, I hope Master Guroth picks a good subject.

I suppose we souldn't begin on this topic, we should first state if their is life after death, and if there is a difference between hell and heaven. Death sentance may just be an exciting trip to heaven, that's not really a punishment, everyone in heaven would be like "how did your material life end?" and he/she would say "Electrocution" making the others reply "Ooh respect man, you'll fit just fine in our society, unlike those wimps who did from cancer. Welcome to our order brother." And god would be like "U'r lucky you're electrocuted, I pitty those bastards who get reanimated, those poor souls."

So you see, this argument wouldn't be valid if we in fact have stated first there is an afterlife.

"Die like a dog." This is a death sentence.
"Death like a dog." This is not a death sentence as it lacks a verb.

End of argument. (BTW this last remark is also not a sentence, though this remark in parentheses is.)

Heh that brings back memories: years ago ... ok a Long time ago when I was still a kid in kneehi's, my Dad had a Volvo (one of those round back models before the "Brick") and we ran out of fuel at like 1 am in the middle of no where, stuck! but my Dad if nothing else was always resourceful, and thus opened the boot got out a bottle of paint thinner dumped it in the fuel tank and we happily drove with a spurt and a POOF (no smart remarks plz) to the filling station.
Proof at least that Volvo's use to be good before they almagamated with DAF

death sentence is very much a tradition since past centuries. therefoer it must be upheld even if it is for only tradition's sake.

on the other hand, it is a sariledge to life & preserving life is a tradition held by communities around the world.

in a different angle, death sentence is a must. a right of way for those who are wronged & to preserve more lives, some may have to be sacrificed.

turning to another perspective however would one feel that everyone, despite whatever acts & events, has a right to live & none has the right to end any.

had anyone look closer, one would be inclined to demand for death sentence as it helps to curb crimes & keep criminals in check. implementations however is another matter.

to look at one side & not another is crime itself & therefore is it punishable by death sentence? definitely not, as forgiveness is in order & one should as anyone would.

to conclude, it is tradition. but on the other hand it is inhumane. while traditionally just, it is however in this day & age, a relic. & so true a tradition, humanity today will no longer keep.

& with that, i conclude.

already thanks for all these good replies/arguments...

cleglaw seem to be in the lead... lest it is (maybe not so off-topic) Mea_Culpa?

As I sai yesterday, I'm against it. And now that I finally have time to answear, I will do so. I am against death sentence because: (I'm Swede...)
1/ The risk of convicting an innocent (did I spell that correctly? ) is way too big (and it will allways be no matter the size of the risk).
2/ there is no bigger advantages. The only advantage is that you'll get rid of the convict, ie he won't cost the society anymore money. That death sentence would be deterrent would be an argument for but it's been proved wrong.

Conclution, there is basicly no advantages, only disadvantages. That is why I'm against derat sentence (well, not only, there is allso moral aspects, which comes from my raceing, but we'll take that another time (like tom morrow)).

They say that you get more conservative as you get older, and it seems to be true.

20 years ago I would have been fairly strongly against the death penalty, but now I’d cheerful throw the switch myself to fry some of the scum we end up looking after for the rest of their miserable lives in our jails.

Having seen a lot of good people die well before their time, for no good reason, I no longer put such a high value on the lives of some of the low-life we end up providing extended free board, lodging and medical care for.

But I would definitely require some safeguards to be put in place. Such as appointing me the only person with the power to hand down a death sentence.

The sort of people I’d apply it to now would include:

Rude shop assistants. People who jump the queue at the local bakery, when it’s MY turn. The morons who purchase the so called 'programs' they infest our TV stations with. Inconsiderate drivers, litterers, graffitists, selected politicians and 'entertainers', etc, etc.

I probably wouldn't always execute Game Company executives who release bug ridden games well before they're finished, but I would certainly bring back a few traditional medieval punishments to sharpen their concentration up a bit....

Tolerance and humanity would of course be extended towards certain antisocial behaviours - but only the ones practised by myself and an inner circle of toadies, flatterers, and bagmen.
