Allright. I'll change it! Geez. You can't do anything without pissing someone off these days!
Thanks Womble - I very much appreciate your gesture. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
I'm sure that 'retarded' people were not really your intended target, but that quote hit a raw nerve with me (and obviously another poster too).
It might sound like I'm being overly "politically correct" but it's just too close to the bone for me to laugh at and made me wince very time I saw it.
The reason I work in the area is that 12 years ago my son was born severely handicapped. I gave up my business to take over his full time care (my wife still works) and I also home school him as the local education system was unable to provide appropriate help.
It's been a difficult 12 years but we're slowly making progress.
Matthew couldn't talk for 6 years (which usually means that you're pretty much 'vegetable' material) but I made up picture cards that we used for simple communication for the early years. And he did eventually begin to speak.
He's still 'retarded' of course, and he always will be, but he has made great progress in many areas and is a very lovable character in his own way.
I've just been asked to make breakfast - "A humungalous toast please Dad..." so I'd better stop waffling and get to work! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Thanks again for making the swap. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
