ok i had been thinking about this topic for some time now and the conclusions i've come are not so bright nor so argumentative <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

but anyhow i will try to share them...

first about research in general and government (or more generally politics): i don't think there is any link... well in my case anyway it's not really the case as i am (as more than 90% of french researchers) employed and payed by french government... but anyway i don't think than anyone in french government (or more generally politics) has been ever involved or even interested in the results of my researchs (and it is also true for more than one of my colleagues...)... it is true though that my discipline is not one to be said 'sensible' as stem cell research may be...

about stem cell research i think there is two things to considerate... 1) the pervert version that has already been denounced by Kyra_Ny (with her <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> post) and myshelf (with the allusion to Rael) and
2) what can be used for medical use...
unfortunately it may be hard to make a real apriori difference between the two of these things... and consequently i am not really opposed to a kind of government interference and control here...

should this controll be "enlightened" by religion... certainly not as it appears from old and recent history that religion and sciences are not very compatible fields...
