Overall, I liked the game, but--and don't give me the "don't compare" line--it isn't as good as DD. At first when I heard the game's premise, I thought it sounded stupid, but it turns out the story is the thing I think is the best thing about this game. It was interesting, it hung together well by the end, and it fit nicely into the whole Rivellon scenario. In keeping with the story itself being my favorite thing about this game, I disliked the whole battlefield thing. It interrupted the story continuity--by the time I was done running around underground I had sometimes completely forgotten what I had been doing before I left. It isn't necessary either; whatever experience is needed can surely be built into the game as a part of the story line without all the dropping in and out of the battlefields. I really liked the new resistances, and the crystal bag; brilliant. I deeply--strongly, powerfully--at an alomost primal level, dislike intensely this buying of skills that are then not yours until you ALSO invest skill points in them. When I buy something, it should be mine. Period. It should be a law. Buy it should=having it!!! Bad designers, Bad. Go to the corner. The two new attributes--survival and speed--were sort of eh. I couldn't see that they made any real difference to anything and all they did was take up points; instead of five points for four things, having five points for six and no appreciable benefit for them was kind of a waste. I thought the "stuff" in this game was not as cool as in DD, and I didn't think it was possible to make alchemy boring but this new method did. I got to where I just bought potions. I LOVE the whole permanent potion notion--give whoever thought of that one a raise! But I was only offered holy water twice in the whole game. I would like that option more. This game gave less control to the gamer; I prefer making the decisions about what to do when based on the logic of the game scenarios--I don't like being forced in one direction. That's why I played DD three times but will probably not replay BD. Still, I enjoyed it.
