well, since i'm not very good at articulating things, you can just refer to the shifter faq on www.gamefaqs.com

i don't know if that guide has been updated already, but when i was playing a shifter then, it really helped me. it's a very comprehensive guide & i do think you can find most, if not all, answers to your queries regarding a shifter.

for example, and i'll quote from there:

"weapons = all properties merge but not the magical bonus to hit and not the base damage.

offhand weapon = no
armor = everything except base AC.
shields = again,everything except base AC.
gloves = no
gauntlets/bracers = no
helmets = yes
cloaks = yes
belts = yes
rings = yes
amulets = yes
boots = yes"

the guide also summarizes all the basics of each shape, so it can come in fairly handy when you have to decide as to which shape to use for a particular battle. for example, don't use the risen lord shape when facing an enemy cleric. i learned that the hard way. i got turned by a cleric and was rendered absolutely useless during the duration of the battle. but it's moments like that which give you an adrenaline rush and makes a game truly fun to play. the challenge of it all. mind you, i was laughing out loud even when the cleric was bashing my butt left & right!

have fun!

Thanks, crusader! Exactly what I wanted to know.

I'm really liking the battles in HotU. They're not just three monster beat-em-ups. There's ambushes and small armies to contend with. It makes the battles exciting rather than time consuming.

Alex and I were playing HotU and stumbled across a trick-chest. I opened it and was teleported to another location. "Damn. Follow me through!" She ended up somewhere else... surrounded by spiders... in a room with only secret exits. I had to try and find her, cutting through monsters on the way, avoid unseen traps (given she was the rogue), try and find said secret doors so we could continue on together. It adventures and panic like that that make it worth while. Stuff this save-and-reload crap everytime something goes wrong (bar death).

not really, just a little wacko sometimes.

what was really fun about that is that the undead lord is an epic shape you get at lvl 21, iirc. he has a lot of powerful abilities, like vampiric regeneration, whirlwind attack, damage reduction, among others.

and there he was, completely rendered useless, in a big battle at that.

moral lesson: do not piss off an enemy cleric.

glad to be of help.

i suppose you're at the middle or near the end of chapter 2? have you faced off with that extremely annoying giant spider (bebelith?)? i love the soundtrack in that part of the game.

wait 'til you get to chapter 3. it gets better. much, much better.

good luck & have fun!

good to know you're enjoying the game.

btw, in chap. 2 , you'll stumble upon what to me is one of the best quests in an rpg, the village of eternal night. keep an eye out for that!

NeverWinter is so nice, i like more when you fight a battle what you almost can't win, you have to fight untill your last breath, these battles are nice a lot, even more when everybody dies and stays only you and the most strong enemy.
Something what i like to much too is the ShadowDancer skill.
Hide in plain sight - you hide even when the enemy is watching you. Nice a lot.

the kobold commando has HIPS, too. and it's just one of the many shifter shapes. the medusa has petrify gaze, the mindflayer has mind blast, vampire has dominating gaze, azer chieftain has burning hands & fire stream, rakshasa shape has ice storm, acid breath, dispel magic, true seeing (whew!), and the list just goes on and on...

It maybe un-important but I feel I should let you know that not everyone is playing with both expansions installed and some have just started on the OC

*sneaks in*

I've seen in a shop a so-called "Deluxe version" with all add-ons priced almost 40 Euro.

[Remember : The German plural form of "Euro" is "Euro" ! ]
