I will warn you: A LIVE Internet connection is needed to play even Premium Single Player modules for it copyright protection check. Check this thread out, which discusses this:
http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=392403&forum=86&sp=0

When I read that I was really shocked. I couldn't believe you were going to have to be connected to the internet every time you wanted to play or load one of the premium mods. I know they are concerned about priacy, but this is ridiculious and especially if you are on dial-up. Who wants to have to dial in every time you want to play a game just so they can do an copyright check.

I know companies are concerned about priacy, and they have a right to be. There should have been a way for them to protect their mods without having you to connect to the internet every time you start one of them though. What about people who don't have an internet connection, but could buy and download the mod from someone else's computer and then install it on theirs. That knocks them out completely from playing them.

I don't think Bioware thought this through very good.

Looks like your friend purchase it on another's machine, but it must be purchased under THEIR Bioware screen-name. Then, they can DL it on other machines and burn it.

1.07: Can I give the module to a friend who has purchased the game but has a slow connection and is concerned about downloading a large file? (Back to Top)

Yes, the module download is the same for everyone, so your friend can download the module at another machine, or if you have also purchased it you can share your download.

Please Note: the module must be purchased with the same username and CD Key it will be played with. In other words, if you wish to purchase a module for your friend you must use your friend's Neverwinter Nights CD Key or the module will not work on your friend's computer.

But what happens if the friend does not have an internet connection so the game can be verified when they want to play it. It doesn't do them any good to buy it, does it? Or have I misunderstood?

Right. It doesn't, if they have no connection of their own.

I think that whole ordeal from the FAQ was written for those 56k'ers who might wanna' bother their friend who might have broadband, for a much faster connection to DL the mod from and then burn it to CD.

That makes sense. Thanks.

I hope they don't get alot of people mad because of that (think that they can buy it and download it from a friend's computer and then find out they can't play it because of no internet connection of their own).

that's really a bum deal, from my own point of view. i would love to play those premium modules also, and though i don't see any problem on my part as i have broadband connection at home, i feel for those who have dial-up connections.

not everyone on this god-forsaken planet has broadband, i hope bioware realizes that. i started on dial-up also, and i can only cringe at the thought of recalling all those excruciating times on 56k connection. downloading something would take an eternity, only to be cut off at the middle and you had to do it all over again, while praying to God almighty that your line hopefully remains uninterrupted during the whole process. and don't forget how tedious it is just to connect to the isp.

i hope bioware goes around to solving this problem because protecting your products from piracy at the cost of great inconvenience to your customers is a terrible, terrible trade-off. can they just not require a valid cd-key at least?

Nope unfortunately. I'm being a complete mongoliod today. I have the worst hangover I've had in a while and I can't think properly. I presume you mean a character in chapter 2?

Oh hang on, got it I think! Chapter 3? Hehehehe, yes that will be amusing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

The LIVE Internet Connection for a SP-mod is a rediculous requirement, since it checks for your "online authentication" every time you LOAD a save. I tend to LOAD saves a lot, hehe.

I'm a save/load addict.

I just spoke with a friend who's part of the Bioware forum and they said there are a lot of gamers very angry over there right now; because, of all of this and the problems it is giving them.

I'm not done with the other floors, but I can't go bick, which isn't just a LITTLE annoying (you CAN'T go back??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />).

I have been hanging around the BW Forum and yes -- a lot of gamers are extremely pissed over the "online authentication" the mods uses when you LOAD a save.

Sorry Ube <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />

All you can do now is check the side rooms and then talk to Desther.

That finishes Chapter 1.

I'm a save/load addict too.

Always having to have the game authenticate every time I reload, that could take up alot of my playing time. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

I'm on Cable myself, but I've got alot of friends still on dial-up and some that don't have an internet connection at all. I guess this is why I feel Bioware is really doing people like this an injustice. It affects us all, but it hits these people the hardest.

I take it by that you do not have a save before going upstairs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

I am a save freak, 50 to a 100 usually by the time I finish a game. Maybe even more.

Here's an idea for you, Ubereil. Start trying to save before going through a door, before talking to an NPC, and before going to a new area.
Make yourself four or five new saves and then always save over the oldest one. That way you will always have a save fairly close to where you messed up.

Just a suggestion.

I use up all the viewable save slots, then over save on the oldest, that way i don't have to scroll down to find a save, i'm always cautious beforeopening some rather daunting looking doors. Me big scaredy cat. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

How do you and your friends feel about it?
Will all of you buy the games?
