Also rogue 4/wiz 16 (BAB=11) will give you 3 attacks per round whereas a pure wiz (BAB=10) will only get 2.

Is there a difference when to multiclass, I mean should I first gain 16 lvls in wizardy and only then switch to rogue?
And if I multiclass does it mean that I will be a weaker mage, missing some of top lvl spells?

Ho-ho Womb, I recognize your face now, you are Ulfnog

i'm sorry i can't help you out by much, egin. i'm not too knowledgeable about caster-type classes. i'm sure glad that womble the resident wiz/sorc is out there helping you out. you're in good hands, buddy.

btw, did i read it correctly that you only have a str of 8 for your wiz? aren't you going to have serious loot-carrying problems there, especially when you get to hotu, when there's a lot of stuff to carry around? or are you roleplaying a wiz whose iq easily qualifies him for mensa but can barely drag his body out of the bed each morning?

Womble. Interesting, wizard-rogue carrying monk robes

Is there a difference when to multiclass, you say somewhere between 9-10 maybe earlier or should I look forward for some certain lvl spells first and then multiclass? Should I still invest all my skillpoints into int? (I think so)
Feats: I have read that there are two archer's feats that are very handy for wiz: point blank shot and rapid shot, should i take them?
I did put one point (that is three points actually) into tumble. It has already saved my [nocando] several times.
Thank you for great help Womble

I haven't got any problems yet. If I need to carry stuff then I use bags of holding, but look at my int As of now I am not planning to invest points into str, btw., yesterday I have got Red Tiger Amulet from hench with +1 to str., so I can use it every mornin

i see. that will probably solve your wiz's early morning difficulty.

btw, do you guys know that the highest damage that can be attained in nwn is not by a caster but by a pally (13)/wm(5)/CoT (22) wielding a scythe? well, as the author of the build in the bioware boards admits, it's a "one-trick pony", but still it goes like this iirc (you guys who are also posters in the bioware forums pls correct me if i got something wrong, ok?)

2 (minimum scythe damage on a dmg range of 2-4/x4)
3 (str bonus * 1.5)
4 (divine favour)
10 (divine might)
7 (divine wrath)
385 (smite evil = 11 (from great smite X) x 35 (pally levels + cot levels).
whoa! that's why cha is a pally's best friend)
-----

411 x 5 (crit range multiplier on a scythe + increased crit range from weapon master feat) = 2055 minimum dmg, at least.

That's cool if you build chars straight to level 40 of course. I tried making him from scratch through the OC first and onto HotU. Definately a 'late bloomer' so to say. Until great smite becomes available he's a bit lacking. Better take extra smiting too. If that one smite attack missed you're boned!

Egin, you can also find belts of hill giant strength later on so don't worry too much at all. Casting empowered bull's strength helps too.
Multi-classing at lvl 9-10 was about when you'll get to chapter 2 in the OC. (original campaign) That's when I usually do it. Save some skillpoints, take a thief level and suddenly you have permanent haste and about +7 in AC from your new gear! Why is perma-haste so important for wizzies? You can cast TWICE per round. Makes a HUGE difference.
I find level 10 wiz is good for chapter 2. Cone of cold+empowered fireball will destroy most opponents. So level to 10, take the empower spell feat from the bonus metamagic selection and rock on with a rogue level next.

Good luck!

Is there a place to level your char. like battlegrounds where monsters spawn and you can try and test different builds. I am probably too lazy to go oc again 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ....,n'th time but I am really interested to try different builds after I create my Myghty Wizard

Womble, I think I will do so. Ability to cast fast is really making a big difference. I can say that after using haste for the first time

Crusader:
cool to deal so much damage. I remember nice combo from Fallout : massive crit+minigun burst

Use the console.
Hit the ~ key (BEFORE each line) and type:

(~) DebugMode 1 (Hit Return)
(~) dm_givelevel x (x=no. of levels) (Hit Return)

Your cursor should change to target mode, click on your character to give him the x no. of levels. To finish off, type:

(~) DebugMode 0 (Hit Return)

Note: the syntax in each line is very important. Make sure you type this exactly as shown above.

If you don't have the ~ symbol on your keyboard, click in the chatbox at the bottom of the screen and type:

##DebugMode 1 (Return)
##dm_givelevel x (Return) (Click on character to give levels)
##DebugMode 0 (Return)

Which should work all the time.

Don't try to play in DebugMode 1, weird things happen!

This is an older post of mine. The above advice will allow you to level up to 40 if you desire to test a certain build.

Okie docie. I am level 9 in chap 2, hunting trolls, orcs and bugbears in the caves. Never used hench or familiar before (interesting do I really get better exp?). I wouldn't say it was difficult. The only battle I had to reload many times and use familiar was battle with Destner. My only companion is summoned creature (lvl 5 bear atm.).

Is it the right time to multiclass, or should I wait more 1 lvl?
I am lvl 9. I have 2 lvl 5 spells (one spell is thanks to +2 int helmet)

When I test multiclass into rogue and put all points into use magic device I get 12.

So is it the right time?

PS Thanks for the tip with console lvl testing.

keep in mind egin that every level you multi-class delays you from getting to higher level wiz spells, so give it much thought. if you play the oc only, might not be wise to multi a caster. but if you're going to play hotu, then you have more leeway to multi a caster since you get to higher levels than the oc, so you'd still get those 8th/9th level spells.

re desther, two tips:

(1) linu, despite her fumbling personality, is the best henchman (or woman) for this part of the game.

(2) destroy first those 4 (?) creatures surrounding desther. then, you'll have an easier time.

good luck in chap. 2. though i find it to be the longest and most boring chapter in the game, it'll get more interesting near the end of the chapter.

That should be enough points to use the robes of the dark moon + boots of the sun soul (+3 or whatever) If you just take one level of multiclass you can hit level 8 spells before the end of the OC. Empowered IGMS is more than enough for any enemy there. Glad to hear you're having success soloing! You must be playing well! I used grimnaw at higher levels. He'll knock Desther on his butt too.

But is one lvl of rogue enough for good speed and AC???

Womble and crusader, Ohh, and what is better AC/speed bonus plus some monk armor or late lvl spells? I become confused so easily.

Huh, thank you Womble. It takes a lot of running and resting. But now, I have no need for fam or hench at all. That is the reason I am worried so much of picking the right path to develop my mage's skills and attributes.

And one more question. Is tumble a damage dealing feat???? YEsterday I had a situation when my summon died, my mage was out of spells running in circles from one nasty troll. Both of them were almost dead, he tried to hit my mage, mage made successfull tumble attempt and the troll died. Now I thing, what if he had some poison effects on him, maybe, but I doubt he had any.

Nope, tumble is just for AC and avoidance. Maybe the troll was in a rage and it wore off. At low HP that can kill. Been a while since I played so I'm not sure if trolls can rage in NWN or not. Otherwise it sounds a bit odd. Otherwise it sounds like an odd bug.

I always use an elemental shield for such emergencies. Not as good as mestil's acid sheath but pretty cool and available at level 4 spells.

One Rogue level will get you better AC gear, that's all. 4AC from the haste on the robes of the dark moon and 3 maybe from the boots of the sun soul +3.

that invalidates my opinion, then. told you i'm not so knowledgeable at caster classes.

@ egin: if you can still get lvl 8 spells by the end of the oc even if you multi-class to rogue (and allow you to use monk items), then i believe it's more than worth it. some of the best items in the oc are monk-specific. tumble is a monk class-skill, and not only does it allow you to "tumble" successfully in/out of combat, every 5 pts in tumble net you 1 additional AC. and that's one more reason why, if you play an elven monk w/ maxed-out dex & wis in hotu, then pump tumble every level up (forget about the other skills except discipline), you'll end up with a monk who is near-unhittable, has a substantial spell resist, and is immune to a lot of things. in short, hard to kill. i have a feeling those guys at wizards of the coast love playing monks.

btw, even if you don't like having henchmen hanging around to babysit, it's still a good idea to hire them one by one, listen to each of their stories, and do their quests. some of the items they give you can really benefit your char, and at when upgraded, provide substantial benefits.

@womble: i take linu in helm's hold since i usually play a monk, and she disposes of all those undead while i contemplate on whether to hit desther w/ stunning fist or just knock him down on his behind. but for a non-monk char, whether caster or melee, grimgnaw is hands-down the best merc imo. he's never shy about unleashing those stunning fist.

I have several levels in tumble. It is really worth it to allocate some points into this skill.

I decided to wait one more lvl till I multiclass. One of lvl 9 skills is that avenger, can I really survive without it? What about summoned creature at higher levels? Will it be really helping me?

I am such Yesterday went into ancient caves (those under troll caves). There is a stone golem guarding an exit to next level. I gave him a ring and he dissapeared. I went to the next level. Same again. I killed the golem. OMG 550 exp points!!!!! where minotaur gives only 15 or so. I should have killed the first one also (don't have an earlier save).

I will go into rogue next level, btw, now will have some time collecting gold and looking for those robes of the dark moon in stores.

I think you only get to kill the last golem. You have to use the other (non-violent) methods to get past the others. Clicking attack on them will bring up some message like 'cannot do this due to pvp settings' or whatever.

No no Womb, the point is to kill them, to grab tons of precious exp. 500 for each, where can you get better
And and it can be considered as cheatin or spoiler but here is how I kill golem and every mob on those lvls without taking a scratch
Spoiler : Maybe everyone knows this but if no I will be glad to help.... There are unbreakable metal bars and metal doors the beginning of the level. Run behind and close them and just shoot shoot shoot your arrows.

Mmm. I just attacked golem with spell and he became hostile right away. Maybe better way to try taunt, but I never tried to use it.

Did it and it worked. What a shame I didn't kill the first one. So could have killed total 3 golems for 1650 exp., yay! Taunt worked well also.
And one more tip. The gates are strong but not absolutely unbreakable so be careful with AE spells

I’ve noticed you can do a lot of things in the OC that you were never able to do previously, before SoU and HotU was released.
