Is it possible to assemble the dragon armor after you've been teleported to the big desert area? Or have I completely missed my chance here?

I don’t think you can Malygris, at least not through normal in-game means.
You’d have to use some “Raze” special inventory cheats.

If you were lucky, you already had the Dwarf Blacksmith assemble the Breast Plate and the Heart of the Dragon.
Then all you have to do is just put all of the pieces on your character and Walla, all assembled.
If you have a save before the Counsel of Seven you can always reload and go the Dwarven Halls to get the Breast Plate and Heart of the Dragon assembled.

Dragon Armour Quests

The first time you wear the complete dragon armour set you learn a level of Elemental Strike, get some experience and have the temporary spell Bless cast on you. There are no special bonuses for continuing to wear it. As long as you otherwise have decent equipment, you are pretty much just missing a bit of experience by not completing the set.


There may be a way to get any missed pieces or have Grisha forge the breastplate and gem together;
Teleporting Anywhere, via hex editor

You should at least be able to pick up missed items. The quest log gets cleared when you enter the wastelands, but I do not know if that is just cosmetic, or not. Grisha may or may not fix the armour.
