We too have a tradition like that in Australia: Grand Final day (Australian Rules Football). Families and friends get together, have a big barbeque, sharing food and beer, and cheer on with millions of others to see their team win. I was working in a Factory, and they had a sign on the wall that said;
"Between teabreaks lunch breaks coffee breaks and smoke breaks we have a small work break"
