Shyon Hey, I can't wait to hear from ya Shyon. I'd like to hear all about Brazil. Especially, since my grandmamma is Portuguese and was originally from Brazil... God Rest Her soul. Kyra_Ny

No hard feelings taken.
As for a language that is music to my ears... Well, I have always loved the Russian language.
Please, do not get me wrong, I love the languages from other countries as well. In fact, if I ever found a Djinni in a bottle, my one and only wish would be to be able to fluently speak, read, and write all languages from the past, present, and future.
It’s just I feel like I belong for some reason to the Russian language, and I fell in love with their history at the age of 5 when I first read about The Romanov family and the Czars in the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Oh, well I’m rambling. Kyra_Ny
Kyra thnx for not get offended and for understanding my point of view. I must confess that it is a relief to read that there are Americans totaly oposite to the Elections results. Yeah I know what you mean about the Russian language. It is the same feeling I have about German and French. Brazil is in many ways the opposite of Sweden (as with America, this is just speculations) for good or bad. The weather is better (in Brazil) . The country is larger . There is bigger gaps between rich and poor . The country is more corrupted . Pepole are more social . The menatlity is more of a Manjana (Spanish for tomorrow, don't know how to spell it)mentality . The good thing with that is that pepole are more relaxed and more spontanious (in Sweden we like to plan basicly everythin on the millisecond). But, they have trouble coming on time (which I see as disrespecting other human beings, since I'm raced that way). The reason why this thread has become so big (I think) is because it's a subject that everybody knows (or think they know) something about. And it has allso developed from a post about americabnization of the Swedish society to a... where are we now? I think we talked about language. And just to share my oppinion about the German language (with the risk of ending up unpopular, since a whole lot of pepole like it) I don't think there is anything beutifull about it at all (generally speaking). Since I'm Swede (a whole lot comes back to that, doesn't it. That's because where you come from is important in many aspects, probably one of the most important aspects in your development) I speak Swedish, and Swedish finnished second on a list of Europes most beutifull language, determined by experts. (This is a very subjective (or is it objective? Can't seem to remember which of those meaning what. I think subjective means personal though (sort of)) thing, but if anything, it means Swedish IS a very beutifull language, gennerally speaking.) (And if I'm never proud of this on other occations, I'm proud of it now. I don't see myself as a nationalist, but I've got a feeling that deep inside we all are. Maybe not much, but still, a little), and German and Swedish is very simillar to eachother (in some aspects, words for example). And because I'm Swede (I'm repeating myself, yes but this thing is complicated to read), I grew up with Swedish (who once again, is one of Europes most beutifull languages (as a Swede, I think that's worth repeating ))I'm used to Swedish. That's the way it's supposed to be (according to me, since I grew up with it). And then we compare it to German, who is simmiular, in some aspects, and different in some. In this case, the key thing is the sound of the language (ie how they put words together, what kind of sound they put them together of, so basiclly how they sound, not counting what they mean). And the keydifference here is that German uses much more (don't know the name of the sound in english) S-sounds (and the realtives, sch, sh and that kind of sounds. Pepole who don't know what German sound like probably have no idea what I'm rambling about). This makes it sound more... sharp (in lack of better words). This is the main reason, but there are other's as well why I think German is an ugly language (if ugly is the right word). Since it's simillar to Swedish, I compare it with Swedish, and find Swedish more beutifull => German is an ugly language. And of chorse, I tried to lern it in four years (in vain. SO MUCH GRAMMAR.), which didn't help. And last, but not least, I have the same wish as Luc: I wish I new all languages from the past, present and future by heart. And if not all languages, at least I wish I was as goot at English as I was at Swedish (since I'm good at Swedish). Übereil

I don't see the american system as truely democratic, since you only have two parties to vote for, and there aren't any big differences betwen them.
From my point of view, you can shoose between a conservative [nocando] and a stupid conservative [nocando] (guess who is who). But that's just my point of view.

Übereil @ Übereil => Oh, we have more than just two parties. We have several. It's just that the two main ones, (The Republican and The Democrat) parties have all of the control so the others don't get the time of day. And true, they do like to argue about a whole lot of nothing, but as long as I have my Microwave Oven I’m okay with it all. @ AlrikFassbauer => Thank you AlrikFassbauer Kyra_Ny

Geez, Übereil, you could have put all that in two sentences...
I think it is difficult to evaluate the sound of a language which you speak fluently. German probably sounds hard. I don't really know. But I suspect Dutch or Russian sound harder. (Btw, I don't like Russian at all, no offence meant.)
I like Swedish, though. And Portuguese, esp. as it is spoken in Brazil.

Please, all of you, keep your thoughts coming as they may relate. If a cucumber contains of 97% of water, and there is 20% salt in the dead lake (you know, the one placed by Turkey. And Bulgaria, and Romania and a bunch of other countries), shouldn't you be wetter if you took a bath in cucumbers compared to the Black lake? Übereil (just had to)

"The people are more social" In general yes, but don't believe that so much - of course like in everywhere has non-social people here. Shyon
All countries have their corruptions and sadly, as you have pointed out, the media tends to talk more about negatives rather than on the good things. For example: I watch the BBC news and it is filled with negative views and the bad in other countries, but I know for a fact that, that is only say about 10% true. The media has left out the other 90% that is good or just plain everyday life. Brazil to me is a beautiful place filled with lots of warm, caring, loving, and wonderful people. The same is true for all other countries as well, but I’d love to hear more Shyon if you’d like to share more. Or anyone else who’d like to share.
