Kyra_Ny:

You're only ? years older than me!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" />

Oh, decades older I'm sure.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" /> I'll be 58 next Friday (12th) - so plenty of time for last minute present shopping folks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

But as this has fast become the "Everything is off topic" thread, here are some quotes to doing with language (weren't we talking about languages, and misunderstandings, a page or so back??).

Anyway, I love the direct way that kids often use language - in much the same way as person from another country might not quite get the right meaning.

I was in the shower the other day and my young son came in and had a good stare at me. Eventually he said thoughtfully "Dad is very skinny!"

Now, I'm far from obese, but nobody would ever call me skinny <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> - so why the comment? But we eventually clarified it. Normally I have my clothes on, so I don't show much skin. In the shower it's all skin on show - so by kid's logic I was "very skinny". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

And another day he was intently watching the water run out of the bath. Wanting to express that the water was disappearing, he shouted excitedly:

"It's getting goner, it's getting goner"! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

And one from a friend's little girl. She had been asked to help by holding a handful of nails - without dropping them - while Dad hammered. But he noticed that a steady trickle of nails was hitting the floor. "hey, you're dropping the nails" says Ken.

"No I'm not dropping them" she said solemnly "they're falling...." <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Kris

That is sooooo Cute!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

I meant the children Kris not you being skinny. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
I do hope you know I'm playing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Like I told another person once.
58!!!
That's nothing by todays standards!
You're still super young!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />
You have at least another good 60 to 70 years left in you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My father's older than you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />, so if you don't whach out I'll send him over to your place, and, he'll kick your [nocando] <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />! Simple kindergarden logic...

Anyway, kids sais the funniest things. It seems to be the current topic, so here we go:

My sister's best friend has a boy at about five years old. He's got cancer btw. Sad, isn't it? Anyway, one day, they (I wasn't there, so I don't know who it was) pointed out a flower and said to him, that's a flower. They pointed out another flower and said that's a flower too. He pointed at a third flower and said is that a flower? And they asnwered yes, it is. Then he started running around, pointing at flowers and said "flowers! Flowers!". Very cute, I gues, at least the first two minutes...
Anyway, they whnet for a walk in the park, and they brought him whith them. Then he spotted some trees, and started pointing at them and said "flowers! Flowers!" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />.

Another story (for those who don't whant to move their lawns) is about a son who one day asks his father why the grass grows. He thinks a little, and wonder if he should go into flowers ande bees (I wonder if that's an international expression) and all that stuff, but instead he decides to say "son, the grass grows because it whants too". His son replies "then why do you cut it?"(as you all know that's what you do when you move your lawn. You cut the gras down. In case you didn't know... That's ther expression we use in Sweden btw, we cut the grass, and meen move the lawn... I'm ramblig, ain't I?)

Ahemmm, yes, you are. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

And to you really "move" your lawn? Where do you put it? Shouldn't you leave it where it is and just mow it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Btw. are female wise guys called wise chicks? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

Sorry. I'm really <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> here...

Kyra_Ny:

And here I am with my lowly ole Honda Accord LX!

Are you still hankering for the Audi TT that you mentioned in another post? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I had a drive of one a few weeks ago, and very nice it was too.

It belonged to a friend who kindly insisted that I have a test drive. Unfortunately, it was in the city, full of kerbs, traffic and fussy little roundabouts, whereas I'm used to driving more in the countryside. So I was terrified the whole time - and did all the usual nervous things like trying to indicate with the windscreen wipers. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Nicely made and finished, but somehow not quite me. I think I'll stick to what I've got.

Kris

By the way, Audi is not only a German company, but even more : It consists originally of the conglomerate of 4 car-producing companies : Each one is represented through a ring in the company's symbol. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

More about that there :

It's in German, but you'll see what it's about, I think. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I like the Kombi Bean! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

A friend of mine still has one (nicely done up) with the two part front windscreen.

I had a newer one about 20 years ago, and also (over 25 years ago) an old one with the two part windscreen. I called it "Otto" in honour of the noise it made. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The four stroke engine cycle is sometimes called the "Otto cycle" (after a pioneering engineer), and I could hear every part of the cycle in my noisy old Kombi van. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Great vehicles. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

i just couldn't find a decent picture of the "samba" in a limited time period.

about the caption contest,
let it be clear that @spick had to choose a new winner, not me.
i just posted an other pic on this forum as a "temporary" replacement.
Spick probably just had forgoten about it, it could happen to me too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
But if you wish i will anounce the best caption of my "temporay picture"
