I have been trying to cure Mardaneous and I can't get past the 3 candles under the entrance from Aleroth. I have been trying for 3 weeks and through 3 different characters. I don't think I'm stupid because I have gone all the way through Diablo. I need a little help please. Thanks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />

3 Candles? Are you talking about the three pentagrams on level 1 of the catacombs? if so here is what you need to do.

Next to three pentagrams you should will find a manuscript. If you read the manuscript you'll discover you need to put the three magic orbs in each of the three pentagrams to open up a portal to the secret chamber. To do that, just drag each orb from your inventory to the center of each of the three pentagrams (the orbs will be in the "spells and scrolls" part of your inventory). If you place the orb correctly, it should start levitating. Once the portal appears and you use it to enter the secret chamber, the locked door will unlock, giving you easier access.

hmm... i think you are a bit before that no?
if i'm not mistaking (and maybe i am) you have just enter the catacombs... and you are just in the dugeon entry? there is a lever on the wall... click on it and the door will be unlocked...

In the graphics options, change the Darkness setting to 50, and maybe increase the gamma. That will allow you to see pentagrams, levers and various loot better underground.
