If I read your questions correctly,
I usually save before a fight and then I try to hit it head on.
If that doesn't work then I go to re-load, but before I reload I think about it a bit to weight a strategy.
With games I'm playing for the first time and I have no idea what weaknesses there might be it is always a trial and error method for me until I get it right.
Sometimes the first approach works and then sometimes after 10 to 20 re-loads I finally find the answer to success.
Sometimes success is to leave it alone until a later time, when I have built up my character more.
