Stone, Does your above quotes mean that this info from the JoWood forum is old news now? Will there be an English translation?
Quoting: Iomar Eisenwolf JoWood Moderator Bad news concerning the addon. I've talked with Plex if there will be an english version of the addon (Nacht des Raben), and he said that's a very difficult question. Many political problems are here within and it's not sure if there will be ever an english addon. this is out of the hands of JoWooD and Atari doesn't respond. Seems that the addon is temporary on ice or it died long before.

I finished Gothic 2 last night, after the game clocked me at around 72 hours in or so.
Good game, not-so-great ending.

Maybe, this is usefull
Shortly after Gothic II, PiranhaBytes released a fantastic add-on that added a complete new world, several new guilds and a second main story to the game. For more details take a look at this page.
Sadly, Atari hasn't released a version in English so far and probably never will.
But if you are a true Gothic II fan, you can buy the German add-on, install it over your English Gothic II game and use the unofficial translation mod created by fans.
Installing the add-on over an English game is a little bit tricky because the setup requires a German version to be present. But don't worry, we have created a small batch file that will do most of the work for you.
Follow these steps to get a fully translated add-on:
Install Gothic II. Let's assume you have chosen the folder C:\Program Files\Jowood\Gothic II Download the files Gothic2_130_de.exe and Gothic2_130_en.bat Copy both Gothic2_130_de.exe and Gothic2_130_en.bat into C:\Program Files\Jowood\Gothic II Run Gothic2_130_en.bat and wait till it has finished. Run the add-on setup (Gothic2-Addon-Setup.exe) from the CD and install "Die Nacht des Raben". Download the official Add-on patch 2.6 and install it. Download the Night Of The Raven Translation Mod and install it. The setup of the translation mod will create a link to the GothicStarter on your desktop. To run the fully translated add-on, start the GothicStarter, pick "Gothic II The Night Of The Raven" from the list on the left side, then push the "Spiel starten" button. Source, and all links

Out of curiosity: Where's a good place to find the German add-on? And hopefully for a not too expensive price?

In the current PC Games there is an interview, wrote Stone. One particular thing is mentioned there which is heating up the emotions in a forum : Running away from too heavy opponents. Is it true that "the Americans" (as Michael Hoge in the Interview said) had problem with running away from too heavy opponents ? Are there really gamers who simply cannot run away when they see something that is "too big" for them ? Or aren't they even able to see that something is "too big" for them ? Are there gamers with the installed wish to laughter *everything* , even if it's several times bigger than the own strength ? I'm interested in your answers, because that a hbit something I didn't know of. By the way, Michael Hoge said (in the last sentence in the quote above), that this "running away from too heavy opponents" will be changed a bit.

To AlrikFassbauer:
If I read your questions correctly,
I usually save before a fight and then I try to hit it head on. If that doesn't work then I go to re-load, but before I reload I think about it a bit to weight a strategy. With games I'm playing for the first time and I have no idea what weaknesses there might be it is always a trial and error method for me until I get it right. Sometimes the first approach works and then sometimes after 10 to 20 re-loads I finally find the answer to success. Sometimes success is to leave it alone until a later time, when I have built up my character more. All the while I’m screaming and yelling at my computer, ready to throw it out the window.
Was that what you were looking for or did I read what you asked incorrectly.

Running away from Enemys (if they are stronger) is a part of strategie. In real life your only chance, in the case you will fight with a sword , to survive if you cant beat the Enemy.
And the Question is, why is it so hard to understand that a escape is a way to win the game.
The Enemys running a while behind you, and then they stop. So you can eat something or drink a potion, and go back to the fight again.
And this is more "real" as saving and newloading.

I do run away also and I do, do what you just mentioned, but I am a gamer not a role player. That is why I try many other options before I run away.
At times running away is the only feasible option as you said and I agree with you.

Running and then going back to fight is DEFINITELY one of the best ideas a gamer can have in G2, when it comes to battle -- even more so than G1!

Yes, I agree - so the question remains:
Why is this a feature that the game designers think in need of changing "because the Americans could not cope with it"? (which is roughly translating the interview quote)
Obviously the European Gaming Community did not vociferously demand a change in concept, but the American Gaming Community did?
I have me doubts there...

I don't know why any American would want to change it.
Maybe it's a single individual in American, that has a bit of influence that's just a little cry baby. They can't hang with the big boys, so they're stomping their feet to get their way.
That would sound about right wouldn't it?

Hey, I finally got Gothic I & II delivered to me in the mail.
I installed G1 and just messed around with it for a bit to get used to the keyboard controls.
I walked around right where you start and I thought, 'This is cool how my character is all illuminating blue and white.'
Then I stepped a little further into the blue and white light where I promptly died.
All I can say is don't walk into the light. (whistle, whistle)

So, I also started to play G1 again. Until now, i only played it one time as a member of the swamp village. Let´s see how the game plays as a member of an other group.

Mike Hoge from Piranha Bytes made a speech in the public library of Bremen (Germany) about the development of games in general and Gothic III in particular. That way they unsealed that the game would have various degrees of difficulty and that Gothic III could be finished without joining a guild. Generally the world will consist of three different parts. A desert in the south, the landscape we already know from Gothic II and the norther part. Naturally Mike Hoge mentioned a lot more facts and ideas. You can find a detailed report on his visit in Bremen as well as a rendered video of a Scavenger-motional-study on this site. Source
