The Act are like Chapters, if you solve the Mainplot in one Chapter apears a Picture wich will announce the next Chapter or Act.
Normaly in the next Act you can buy better Armours, and discover Areas where the Monsters to strong up to now.
In Gothic 2 exist some tricks at the beginning to get some bonus Exp.
In G1, not. The only things i can offer are spoilers.
If you want them so say it, but the most fun in this Game is to find out everything.
But, to start some Tipps.
Spoiler : You must not give the Sword from Whistler directly to Whistler, you can take it first to kill some Animals and earn Exp, even so the Amulett from Nek.

Ask Thorus for a faster and easyer way to join the old Camp. After several Question in this direction he will offer you a quest.
Go to this Trader Mordrag, he help you to reach the new camp.
If you are running with an NPC, you will earn the Exp if he kill the Monsters.
In the new Camp, find the Way to the new mine (one the left side from the huge Cave where the new camp is) You will find some scavenger, Molerats and Wolfs. But in the little Camp by the new Mine you will find a digger who whill give you your first Armour (Dont know the Name in the english Version) for free, so you do not nedd to buy the trousers from Fisk

I'm 7th level now and I can basically almost join any of the three camps now.
But I think I'll kill off a few more things and get a few more levels first.

I've learned that the Lizards and those Dinosaur creatures are the fastest runners.
I can out run everything else.
I can out run the lizards too sometimes, but never those Dinosaur creatures that look like Raptors.

Help Request Spoiler : My big problem right now is the Old Mine is Gated and Locked. I can't get in to get the list from Ian.

Tsel, did you use the windlass outside of the old Mine?
If the big Gate is Closed, there is no way to open it again.
But you can jump through the Gate.
Type in the Game (no Pause, or Mainscreen) "bmarvinb" (without " ), after that, you can press the K Key and your Char will teleport five moves forward. Then you can enter the Mine.
But beware, if you coming out of the Mine, you have to Teleport again. But from this Side you have to look at the floor.
If you teleport on a planar Floor, so you have no problem, if the floor going downwards no problem too.
But do the Floor going upwards, then it is possibel to fall under the Floor.
You have to go to the right or left Corner of the Gate und there you will find a place which you can use.
I hope this is clear.

An other thing, (i mean i have told it here or someone [ Hello Tsel ] in a PM).
I said that there is "endless" Time to bring Whistler his Sword. That is not correct. You have only one or two Days.
But there are two possibilitis to get a good Weapon.
Spoiler : After that Baal in the old Camp bring you to the Swampcamp, follow him if he go back. Kill him and get his Weapon. (Damage 29)
Or, after you can enter the Castle in the old Camp, go to the Trader by the Smith Stone. Told him that Thorus send you, and say him that you will kick in his (the Traders) A$$, if he not sold you a Weapon. After that you can buy a Battlesword (Damage 33)

I used the bow to quickly shoot on the Lizards. With several restards (loading savegames) I managed it, because I always entered something high above over the lizards, a stump of a tree for example, or the ruins of a building.

Tsel, here is a little Spoiler about the List from Ian.
Spoiler : You can bring the List directly to Diego, and this Quest was solved.
But you can bring the List first to Lares in the new Camp and then to Diego. The Quest will be solved too, and you get some bonus Points and you have a good start to join the new Camp. Or you can join the old Camp further on. Its make no different, but after giving Lares the List and then to Diego, look in your Journal and read the entrys for this Quest.

I was thinking about doing just that and I am currently in the New Camp.
To be on the safe side I was going to put aside a special save first so I would not mess up the plans for the future of my character.

I am 8th level now.
I have a 31 STR naturally and a 35 DEX with the help of two DEX rings.
I have this nice melee weapon called the Skull Crusher or something like that. I know it is called (? Something ?) Crusher; it has a damage property of 38.

Spoiler : I got a free +5 to my STR from Horatio the convicted Black Smith in the New Camp.
You can get that if you talk to Jeremiah in the back of the Lake Bar in the New Camp and then talk to Horatio.
I taught Lefty and the Rice Lord a lesson and I took all of their stuff. Later I called Lefty Friend and made him get the water for the Peasants.

I was using the Bone Bow, but after teaching Lefty a lesson, I have his Long Bow which has a damage property of 40; I use it now instead.

I have learned to not even mess with a Shadow Beast right now.
I can take out a single Skeleton, but it requires way to much work and tactics to even mess with them right now so I leave them alone too.
The Biters are super easy to kill.
Blood Hounds I can kill, but they require me to get at least one lucky game AI roll; otherwise it is a 50 / 50 chance that I will die instead.
Snapers are not a problem now if I can get them one by one, but they are real hard to separate; because, of the way the game groups them together.
Wolves are pretty easy too, especially if they are alone.
Mole Rats are a joke. If you have a Bow you can take them out real easy.
Lurkers I can kill pretty easy if I take them on one by one.
Lizards are still a little hard; because, of the way they fight. They use almost the same tactics as the Skeletons, Goblins, and Humans use in fighting.
Regular Goblins are easy to kill.
I killed 3 Black Goblins from atop a hill; it was funny.
They were trying to jump up and get me.
Each time one would jump up, I would plug him with an arrow.

Spoiler : The next creature I am going to check out is those Lizards by the wreaked ship. They look different because they have this webbed fin along their back. I do not know their name, but I will find out soon enough. I think I can climb on the wreaked ship and take them out with my bow.

I am saving my skill points right now. I want to become a Mage and I want to get as many skill levels as I can when I finally can; whenever that is. I decided not to join the Sect Camp, but I am still undecided if I want to mainly be a Fire Mage or a Water Mage.

I have another special save set aside so I can try the other camps without having to do all of the mundane work again.

Well, that is it for now.

These Lizard, are Firelizards. And you need a very good protection of Fire if you want to fight against them.
And if you managed them (there is a trick to kill them early) let one of them alive.
You will need one, and im unsure they will respwan or not.

My current (yes, after all the speaking about the Game i play it again ) Level without beeing a member of a Camp is ten, and i think i can go up to level twelve.

To play as a member of the Swamp Camp is, in my eyes, the best way. The story will fits better than if you play the others.
And there is a Quest you can only as a Swamp Member get.
But in the Swamp Camp you cant be a Guru, so if you want to play a Magican, you have to be a member in the other Camp.

I am 9th level now.

I messed with the Orcs. I even found out that
I can take out the Orcs if I lure them to me one by one,
but I left them alone for now.

Spoiler : I took out the 5 Orc Dogs at the entrance to the Orc area. I climbed up one side of the mountain and then down that same side but more to the right and that is where I took out those Orc Dogs with arrows.

I found some more Black Goblins. I never bothered looking across the bridge on the way to the Sect Camp until last night. That is where the Black Goblins were.
What I did was swim across the waterfall lake to the rock near the bridge.
Then I climbed on the rock and I plugged them all with arrows. Bye-bye Black Goblins. I went into the cave and found lots of them in there
and they all came after me all at once!
I do not know if Gothic has any area effect spells, but if they do not, I think I will have to hit and run on this one for quite awhile.

I am aiming to be 14th or 15th level before I finally join a camp.

Sorry for the double post, but I also bought "Die Nacht des Raben".

I already had "Gothic II", so I got "Die Nacht des Raben" also.
That way when I'm done with G1
I can jump fully into G2 + Die Nacht des Raben.

Äh ...
Hi Tsel

The Night of the Raven is a very good Addon, with many new Stuff, and a Levelbalancing wich make the Game much more harder.

My opinion is, that it is the best first play G2 without the Addon, and then, if you know where are the easy Monsters, and some points where you can find helpfull items, to play with the addon.

But, anyway. I know a little bit about both Versions, and can give little Advise if you need some

[color:"orange"] and they all came after me all at once!
I do not know if Gothic has any area effect spells, but if they do not, I think I will have to hit and run on this one for quite awhile.

[/color]

This is whats make the different betwen the Armours.
If you join a Camp, you will get a better Armour. With this you can survive the melee fight against all these Goblins, so you dont need a Area Spell. But there are some.

JoWood has closed a deal with K.E. Media in order to enter the scandinavian market. K.E. @ Tsel:

Notwithstanding the fact that Stone is a very proficient and knowledgeable 'Gothican' I have a differing opinion on playing G2 first and NotR separately thereafter.

Levelbalancing and somewhat increased difficulty set aside (not unsurmountable, just more challenging, and requiring more pre-meditation and cunning plans), the story and the locations of NotR are so much intertwined with G2 (you have to start all over in any case), thereby expanding both story and geography tremendously, that I recommend to give it a serious try, rather than having to adapt the methods and tactics you're getting used to from the older part to the expanded version.

Thank you

I figured out an easier way to handle those Black Goblins
without having to get better armor.

Spoiler : What I did was I had them chase me
until they stopped to go back to their cave.
Then I ran back to them and had them chase me again
until they stopped to go back to their cave and so on etc...
Until I got them so far out that when they stopped
to go back to their cave, I could quickly swim across
the waterfall lake, get back up on that rock,
and then I started shooting them with arrows
like I did with the last bunch.
That kept them there trying to get me
until I took them all out.

Sure, Tsel. But the best Fights in Gothic are the melee fights with more than one Enemy.
Glance, what you say is completly right.
The World of G2 with the Addon is, in my Eyes, perfekt.
The Story is so much deeper and complet, that you will ask your self, after you played the addon, what you will find good at G2 without Addon.

But i hear it so often that the severity is so hard, that i say to all it is better to start ....

But sure, a try is it worth.

I have heard from many others that the story is way better
with the add on in G2 than without it, just like you said Stone.

There is no way I am playing G2 without the add on.

Plus, I like to play stealthy characters more than pure fighters.
There is nothing wrong with melee characters,
just a player personal preference.

I know what you mean though.
You are one of those like to be in the thick of things
kind of player.

I have also learned when running in Gothic
that if you jump every so often you have a better chance
of getting away from what is chasing you than if you do not.
But do not jump to much or you will slow down
and die; because, the creature will get ya.

Oh, funny experience in Gothic also,

I was being chased by two Snapers and
I lured them via the chase to where those two hunters are
in front of the Old Camp.
I was thinking these guys would
take out those Snapers in no time flat.
So did those two big bad hunters kill
those two Snapers that were chasing me?
Hell No!!!
They ran so fast themselves they passed me up!
Lucky for me the Snapers focused on one of the hunters
until they gave up, which gave me a chance
to get to a small hill cliff next to the river
and I plugged both those Snapers with arrows until they died.
