Follow the plot...

eventually you will have to learn different kind(s) of magic - and the means to do that will occur.

Trust! The path to success is a long and winding road...

The problem I am having is following the plot.
I have been instructed by Saturas (the high water mage)
to enlist the help of the fire mages.
He has instructed me specifically to contact
Coristo (the high fire mage).
Well, I am now blocked from going into the Old Camp,
the guards are saying I'm one of those traitorous fire mages,
so I turned into a Blood Fly and I flew into the Old Camp,
and into the Fire Mages building.
There I found Coristo and 2 other fire mages dead
on the red pentagram floor.
I looted their bodies; and they had tons of decent stuff
on them I might add, and then I teleported out
to the Water Mages at the New Camp; and still nothing,
no extra dialog, nil, zip, nada.
Saturas still expects me to talk to Coristo who is dead, very dead.
Now, I'm sure I could look for another Fire Mage,
but it really BLOWS big time when a game gives you
ZERO clues as to what and where to go next.
I really don't feel like exploring every inch of Gothic
in a step by step grid pattern, talking to everyone I meet,
in order to find out who to talk to next.

The game has been really good until now.
Now it is ROYALLY pissing me off! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />

Ah - don't be so frustrated. It's a game of wits. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

You deducted rightfully that you should look for a surviving fire mage. Now, whose body did you NOT find?

And who was your first friendly encounter in the game? And did he not have friends from other parties or camps?

Look around the old camp - in the vicinity of both gates you will find one each outcast from the camp, both of which will help you along.

And then there is the 13th mage... - the old man who studies the ways of Beliar for a way to break the barrier.

It's not that there are zero clues, just because you haven't found any (yet) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Glance.

I totally replayed chapter 3 last night; because,
I thought I ran into a game bug.
I think you can imagine my frustration.
If not, just think of things in the procurement world
that frustrates you, and you'll have a pretty good idea
on how frustrated I was last night. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Again, thank you

Thank you big time for the pointer / game tip. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

I am now in the middle of Orc country in chapter 4.
I am also a 5th circle mage now.
I have enough skill points to go into the 6th circle.
I do not understand why the spells "Wave of Ice" and "Rain of Fire"
are 5th circle spells.
In fact I consider them pretty weak, pathetic spells,
which leaves a mage totally vulnerable to direct attack.
"Rain of Fire" hasn't done any damage to anything enemy near
or far yet, and "Wave of Ice" is such a short lived spell
it's only good for two enemies at a time.
Any more than that the spell wears off and they're on top of and
wailing on you.
Plus, you have to be very close to the enemy
before that spell will even work.
Even a combo of "Wave of Ice" and then "Rain of Fire"
is Lame-O...and is way too risky.
Besides, would a mage in real life move in that close
making themselves that vulnerable to an attack? I don't think so.
So as a mage I decided to specialize in other spells instead.
The "Storm Fist" spell works Super Great on Fire Lizards!

I also ran into a new monster for me, "Razor's"!
I thought, "Oh, no as if Snappers were not bad enough".
Well, it took me about 4 reloads till I finally found a tactic
that worked for me and I wasted those bloody buggers.
I love those Blood Fly scrolls. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
The whole front half of Orc country is cleared.
Now, to move in some and clear some more.

Well, I've helped Ur-Shak and now I'm off
to find the person he has talked about.

It was a short blurb this time. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I just solved the "Chromanin".

It took several days worth of game playing, and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th clues sure took me awhile to figure out, but it's finally done; not to mention the surprise at the end of it all. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, Chromanin is one of the best Quests in the Game, and it have notihng to do with the main plot. I wish there where more Quest of this kind in the Game.

I finished Gothic! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/XmasJump.gif" alt="" />

Maybe the last chapter is harder as a Rogue/Shadow or a Guard/Mercenary, but as a Mage the last chapter was a breeze; (It was super simple).
It only took me 20 min. to finish the last chapter. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
You've gotta love that special sixth circle rune spell.
I'd say more, but there would be major spoilers and I don't want to ruin the game for anyone.
I can say, aside from not liking the game controls; Gothic is one of the best games I've played in a long, long time.
It is mainly like a hunter's game where you go out and hunt big game.
But it is also a tactics game with a bit of RPG.

I was kind of expecting a major battle at the end, but there was none.
Oh well, it's off to G2+NoTR. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />

Is NOTR coming to America in English or what?
Has it been released in English or what?

I am playing the German version with the English player made mod patch.
It is working perfect and great for me.
I must say if you played G2 without NoTR installed you have not played G2.
NoTR makes G2 a very different game.
NoTR changes the whole G2 game and adds lot of dimension to the WHOLE game.

I have heard through rumor control, nothing verified, that France and the UK are going to get NoTR, so you may be able to buy yourself a UK version in the near future.

But I like the original German version better.
I have noticed the American version of G2 is a bit watered down so you may want to consider that.
And the guys in Germany are super cool and go way out of their way to hook you up in buying the German version of NoTR.

Good Luck

The france version will only have france subtitles, the voices are in english.
The same is it with the other localized Versions.

Since I've finished G1 I am full on into G2+NoTR.
My game will be a little different than your,
but maybe we can post some briefs on our play by plays in G2.

G2 is a little harder than G1, but I think they
catered a little more to the mage class this time in G2.
I'm finding being a mage in G2 is a little easier than being one in G1.
The secret to the simplicity of being a mage in G2 is buy, buy, buy spell scrolls.
The efficient use of those scrolls, lots of patience, lots of running, and lots of resting, will be your best friend until you finally become a mage.
Then when you finally become a mage, if you choose to be a mage, it will be sleep, sleep, sleep, until you finally build up enough magic power to last more than 5 spell casts.
Really, the only real hard part to becoming a mage, besides trying to figure out where to go, in G2 is the battle against Agar in the Test of Fire (Path of the Believers) quest.
I built up enough magic power so that after I talked to him I ran away and when I thought I had enough distance I blasted him with spell scrolls.
I basically avoided all other creatures or just ran from them, except for the simple creatures like the regular goblins, scavengers, molerats, and field raiders; those I took out.
