If you are going the Magic route Ub, you don't need to bother with learning the Two-Handed Weapon skill later in the games chapters, but you can if you want to.
BUT I highly advise learning up to the Second Skill Level in One Handed fighting.
You can totally bypass having to learn the first level and learn the Second Skill Level directly in the new camp, if I am not mistaken; but I could be wrong.
Even if you do not have any skill in two handed weapon fighting you will still be able to use two handed swords, just not as effectively.
And yes, you can have both two handed weapon fighting and magic if you want to. Your character creation is all about the choices you want to make.
