A propos "lateral thinking". Do you know these situation riddles where e.g. a naked man with a match lies in the desert? Someone describes a bizarre situation and the others try to figure out what happened. They may ask questions which may be answered by "Yes" or "No" (or "of no importance").
I know a few of these stories, and if you're interested we could do some. Maybe you know some, too? We should open a new thread for it, though.

But that doesn't have two openings.

I am a bit too.
How does that have two openings? I guess if you mean after cracking it in half it does, but then isn't only half of it filled with gold????

But that doesn't have two openings. he didn't actually say two openings - he said "to openings" - so my guess is that it was a misprint for "no openings" not "two openings". not that good a riddle really, as the answer isn't a "box", nor is it "filled with gold". only part of the contents are "gold" in colour.

That's the whole point of riddles, they're metaphorical.

Question: Where?
Riddle: Here on earth it is true, yesterday is always before today; but there is a place where yesterday always follows today.
What is the answer to the question?

That's the whole point of riddles, they're metaphorical. sure, but there's a difference between being metaphorical and being either wrong or just poorly worded.

Now here's a REAL riddle for you. It's a real mean one. It's from Planescape:Torment btw... And here it is:
Think of words that end with "-GRY". Angry and hungry are two of them. There are but three words in the Common Tongue. what is the third word? The word is something that one uses every day. If thou hast read carefully I have allready given thee what it is.
