Does BD or DD have any opportunities for romances like BG2 and NWN:HOTU did?

DD has a tiny romance in it, but not anything like that of BG2 or HoTU.

BG is the first game I know of that had romances in it ... it you look closer, that element of "social interaction" - that was quite new to the community of hacking and slashing male role-players <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> has been quite deeply exploited by the development of the Sims. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

No-one thought that the Sims could be such a huge success - no wonder : They didn't take the female consuments into account ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Everyone thought that computer gaming was a male-oriented or even worse : almot male-only business - until the Sims came ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, the only thing I don't like about the romances in RPG's like BGII and such is they always write better romances for the guys than they do for the girls.
I mean give me a break.
What girl in her right mind wants to romance a pompous A** like Anomen in BGII.
They did do better with Valen in HoTU though I must admit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I once wrote an unfinished article fpor RPGDot's "Alrik's different angle" (which has died down since my in-famous KOTOR article <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> ) in which I basically wrote that since compiuter gmes developers are mainly male, computer games are mainly made for males. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> Or in other words : what women would find important in computer games is rarely be seen, because programmers, artists etc. are to a great deal male.

From that point of view, I'm not surprised about what you just wrote about romances in BGII. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Yes, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> is *very* hard at the beginning, like PS:T somehow.

I do NOT recommend it to let children or Teenagers play with <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/exclamation.gif" alt="" />

I don't recommend it either! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/exclamation.gif" alt="" />

they did better, but us males still have the upperhand in the romance department since we can flirt w/ 2 henchwoman. females only have one choice, unless of course you fancy flirting w/ deekin. yikes!!! (gives me the shivers) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

what's the offspring of a human & a kobold going to be? godzilla? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

Is there a SDK made available by the designers for DD and/or BD?

There is no SDK for DD/BD or plans to release one. The Larians said awhile ago one might be released for DD2.

I don't, until it's official.

I'm just hoping the Larians see this, so they know some people have an interest in seeing modders make mods so I can play them -- or if I like the SDK enough, I might use it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> [b]If[/i] they would release one, it could be fun, yes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

And if they do, I hope it's easy to use -- a la NWN's toolkit.

Though, I hope cut-scenes will be easier to deal w/ than NWN -- though, the NWN mod for making cut-scenes called Stageplay does make life very easy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The NWN toolkit is easy to use??? [Linked Image]

Me and my brother tried it once and didn't get a thing (ok, we didn't look in the manual, bat still, we DIDN'T GET A THING!). The Heroes lll toolkit was easy to use, but on the other hand: Heroes lll wasn't as complicated as NWN (when comeing to maps, since you allready knew what you were supposed to do in H3 ie take your opponents castle and kill all his heroes. Great game btw. H3 I mean).

Yes, the NWN Toolkit is very easy to learn, if you spend a lil' bit of time w/ it. There's a lot there, though. And for linking sections together ain't hard, either; say I got two pieces I want to link, piece A and piece B -- just draw a section for a trigger in piece A, name it, tell where it to link to B. Then create a new piece, named piece B. Throw in some land and draw a trigger in piece B, name it, and tell it to link w/ the name of piece A's trigger.

A lot of NWN's toolkit is drag and drop --- especially for NPC's, items, and enemies. For terrain, basically you ponit where you want a piece to certain land to go and its done.

Scripting can be a pain -- though, the Scripting Generator Mod somebody made for NWN was a nice one to help some of that w/ maknig certain scripts for certain instances.

And for making cut-scenes, the Stageplay Mod was quite easy for making my own cut-scenes. It's like writing in the format of a play, but you have to put that in the script in the trigger's name. Quite easy.

I got a few questions regarding the Divinity series.

Shantara was telling me more or less, one solution for most quests in DD. She did tell me there was a cool quest where you are confronted by a group and you have to choose to be offened so you fight him or just brush it off and let him go by. Is there sometimes of multiple solutions to quests in DD? What about BD? Are there multiple solutions in quests in BD? Are there choices of doing evil to finish a quest? or good?

Shantara was telling me that DD does not allow for zooming in and out, when you are on the map. Does BD at allow for zooming in and zooming out when in the game?

You'll have such choices several times, sometimes even in stronger form (people's future depends on your decision). So you can do proper role playing, because your choice has an outcome , and results in gains and losses of points of Reputation , which results in people acting more friendly or less friendly towards you.

What do you mean by "when you are on the map" ? Do you mean the Minimap or the Map in the Menu ?

We don't call the "playing field" simply map, we have basically no word for that, because it's simply the world. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> When you are on vacation, travelling around with a map, you don't say when you are in a town "I am on the map", do you ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

So, when you are - as your char - running through the world, you can zoom in and out in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> , but not in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> . Hope that was clear. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
