IF we would use things we could resycle (like ethanol) instead of fossile resoures, we wouldn't run out of gas. And as I said, as much as POSSIBLE!

I don't recycle. I'll tell you why too. No-one else bothers. You think in a country that said f-you to the Kyoto agreement and burns anything and everything to keep their 10mpg 4-litre V6 Hemmy Dodge on the road washing out a few bottles is going to matter??
The REAL problem is with industry. Most chemical companies I know pollute large-scale. No-one cares. We personally shipped off about 100 litres of flammable solvent for incineration last week. We are small too. In countries like China and India the problem is even worse. They have noone watching them! Regular dumps of Mercury, Lead and Aluminium waste go into rivers and seas all the time.
The actual pollution produced by a thousand regular households pales in comparrison to one factory.
As long as this goes on there is absolutely no point in recycling paper, plastics etc. You ever consider the recycling processes produce even more waste? Its not very energy-efficient and its of very small real benefit.
What we need to do is think SMART. Biodagradables are the answer. Use it, throw it away, let it return to nature. I use these whenever I can find them. Power should be generated by solar means. You know every house could be self-sufficient with solar panels or a wind generator? (or both). Wind farms supply thousands of Kilowatts of power where they are allowed to be erected. People want to keep their veiw 'nice' of course. Morons....
Ok, rant over... You can come out now. I

Solar energy ain't as practical anywhere, you need enough sun Solar panels are a good way to cut on other resources but not the sollution.

We sould use these kinds of energysopurces as much as possible though! Waterpower is another thing we should use more. And Womble, you should start somewhere. The goverment should go in with higher taxes on pollution, and campangs on recyceling. Teach it out in school, for christ sake!
And in the meantime, we should research more on renewable energysources (wind, water, but allso bio fuels (stupid dictionary!)like ethanol and such). We should allso try and find a way to use... what's it called? It keeps the sun goung, and it will kep the sun goeing for a LONG time. If we had a couple of powerplants running on that tecnique, we wouldn't have to worry about energy for a LONG time. And then we could get rid of them nuclear power-plants. Now we need them, and they ARE pretty safe, but when they fuk up, they FUK UP! I've studdied Harrisburg, but most of all Tjernobyl, so I should know.

That's true Dragh. The problem with solar is that the panels are only about 35% efficient so strong UV lght is needed. In low sun areas a wind generator usually works. One or the other. Or both at best!
Tidal power, solar and wind are actually the only true recylable sources of energy. Maybe geothermal too, that is rare though. Would be good in Iceland.
Stick with the alternatives i.e. coal, gas, oil, nuclear and you'll have a planet that glows in the dark, has no ozone and a surface temp of 30 deg C ALL OVER!
Edit: UB, its called nuclear fusion. Still technologically impossible unfortunately.

But how do you know it's technologically impossible? I don't know if it is or if it's impossible, to be honest... I hope it isn't though , 'cos it would really solve the energyquestion. But why speculate on what we COULD have (hey, if we had magic we could do a lot of cool stuff ). Übereil

Well I do know. I'm a scientist. I read articles and journals on this sort of stuff. The energy required to fuse 4 hydrogen nuclei to helium is rediculous. In fact it takes the heat of a fission explosion (uranium/plutonium fission) to start it. As generated in a hydrogen bomb.
The problem is controlling it.

IF they (you...) found a way to controll it though... Well, they said a lot of things were impossible (fly? Anyone?) but human still got it to work... Never say never...

I’m a strong believer that we CAN do a difference in the world. We have to preserve nature, have respect for her. These recycling we do, cut the production cost of the waste treatment, But on a large scale, you will see that it doesn't matter, Countries like china are developing a lot of industries. These countries don't look so close to the environment. Money on the first place. This will never change until it's to late... Also running cars in hydrogen isn't a real solution also. Because you have to put enormous amounts of energy into a chemical process to Form the hydrogen it self. I know because we make it... So all that energy (in the Mega watts)have to be generated by windmills of something to even get "green" energy., which mean lot’s and lot’s of mills!!!
But instead of using 4L V8 engines that’s using like 15-20 L /100km, save energy. We have the technologies, but it isn't profitable

Übereil I have an eternal hope that unlimited energy will someday be a reality. Either that or we'll end up keeping ourselves warm with our own farts...

Master,
What i am saying is that the most powerful nation has the advantage of bending rules to suit its goals....its what all the preivous superpowers(or then known as empires) did before them and will ultimately lead to their downfall...i am not sggesting that Iran or whomever gets the resources..i think that if a country has its own resources then it should be able to hold on to it. This will help it to trade for instance.
Also to add more misery for the world i am sure tat most poeple relalise that in 20 years the global weather patterns will change dramically...the recent evidence of this were the tornados the state of Florida had to put up with...that unfortunately will be more of what scientists predict.
I agree that biodegradable is the way to go

I dont thnk 20-30 years is a little short...apparently the US military has tried to surpress simliar scintific evidence which points in this direction
I dont think it will be as worse as day after tomorrow but it will be bad...indeed some scientists think England will have a climate of the seberian desert. Earthquakes in india...blah blah.

sorry tragic... i think that on these questions scientific "evidences" goes in all directions...
since when meteorology or studies of the natural ressources are exact sciences?
would you deny than modern sciences is able to make mistakes... especially when they are supported by weak theorical supports?
