The police man arrives home, he lives in a converted warehouse where his wife is a part-time artist. She uses saw dust to mop up any paint spillages but he didn't notice one by the door, slips and his gun goes off...he shoots himself.

Anything with wood (expect the dust)? Is it important where the sawdust comes from (or have I been asking all these questions for no reason)?

Pretty good story, Plowking! But you got almost everything wrong...
Q: Is it important where the sawdust comes from? A: Yup.

Does the time he is actually home matter? In another expression does it matter that wasn't home for a while, as in coming back from work.
It's one of these days...

Pretty good story, Plowking! But you got almost everything wrong... Is the 'answer' your own? This is a situation puzzle and the answers can be quite bizarre - Is the saw dust from a butchers shop?

Ja. Oui. Yes.
Edit: This was the answer to "Does it matter that he has been away for a while".
What do you mean, "is this my answer"? The story is a classical one, quite bizarre but logic.

Sawdust from a butcher shop? What??? Sawdust comes from wood, not from butchershops!

Now, let's make this clear: You didn't answer Plowkings question "Did the sawdust come from a butcher shop?"?

Oh, sorry, I forgot about the butcher shop. No, it is not that bizarre...

I meant was it something you had thought up...so it's a classic one....deary me....what could it be??
Never see saw dust scattered around on a butcher shop floor? Anyway it's not from that.
Is the shooting device a proper gun or rifle?
or something else...is it a nail gun perhaprs?

The guy is a blind midget who works in the cirus! He makes his living because he's the smallest midget in the circus but someone (a rival midget ) has been sawing the laws off his bed so when he wakes up and gets up he thinks he's growing taller...
He then kills himself because he can't make a living as a midget!!

So, he's been away for a while (for example to work). And it's important he works as some kind of artist... So he's been away doing artist stuff... And when he comes home he doesn't notice the sawdust, so he shoots himself... Right so far? Have I missed something? Übereil

Was the sawdust related to the gun?
Was it part of a do-it-yourself home security trap?
Did he build it that morning, without cleaning up, and then trigger it as he stepping inside (which he wouldn't have, had he noticed the sawdust)?

I know of three different versions.
Spoiler : Plowking got one of the versions correct.

Well, you can all stop thinking (about this puzzle, that is). Plowking has got it right! (Although I suspect that he knew it or looked it up... )
Only in my version the midget isn't blind, he just didn't notice the sawdust.
Hi Kyra! Good to see you!

Sorry Sveltje, I remembered something about a blind midget and some sawdust but couldn't think of the rest of it so I looked it up...

You shall be punished by having to post a new puzzle! Only fair, I think.
