I consider Planescape: Torment to be one of the best RPG's ever made, right along w/ BG2 & Morrowind.

PS:T was amazing. The prose put forth in the game was that of a book. The story was amazing and quite powerful -- often very deep issues tackles, such as Death. Lots of roleplaying and choices were there for shaping the character of The Nameless One. Based off The Infinity Engine, combat was good.

So, who played PS:T? What did you think of it? Any memorable moments from it you want to share?

I played it, but never managed to finnish it (maybe when I run out of games to play...). I liked it, great interacting, great story. It felt like I lacked of control on my charracter building though... No skills, you only got hitpoints and (depenmding on if you were a thief, a fighter or a mage. The lack of classes where another thing I didn't like...) wheponslots, thievingskills or spellslots. Otherwise, it was great. Maybe a little too linear, but still great <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />. I too hold it as one of the best I've played!

I played it and I liked it a whole lot. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

One reason that I liked it so much was that it was different from
other RPG's that I had played. Playing an immortal was cool and having
Morte along made it even better. Morte rocks in my book.

I think one of my favorite parts was where you find out that Morte use
to be part of the pillar of skulls and that you were the one who freed
him in a past life.

I also really like the different endings to the game.
My favorite was where you merge with your mortality, raise all of your
comrades, and then go off to accept your punishment and fight in the blood
war.

It was fun using the Modron Cube to enter the maze, meet up with Nordom, getting him to do a memory dump, and then come with you. (modron/nordom - cute)

Also I really enjoyed meeting up with Ravel. That was such a good part.
To find out that she had been both Marta and Mebbeth, to get a lock of her
hair which you can use to get to wands that cast the Black-Barbed Spell,
finding out that Triasm the angel, knows about your mortality, and all the
rest.

I guess you could say I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think everyone should

I was moved to find out more of Dak'kon's past w/ The Nameless One, in one of his past lives.

Definitely. I loved how there were so manys way to get through the last boss, The Transcendant One, all leading to a different ending.

There was one would you could even kill yourself w/ an item -- I believe it was called The blade of the Immortal.

Yes, she was very cool.

I loved that one: "What can change the nature of a man?"

No matter what the Nameless One answered she would ask "And that is your answer?"
And his reply: "It may not be your answer, but it is my answer."
Ravel's answer: "And that is all I wished for my precious man."

It was absolutely great. I also like the way she kept calling him "my precious man."

All the time I was thinking she wanted a specific answer and then to find that all she wanted was his answer. It was so cool.

Here are two quotes that I read somewhere about the game. I wish I could remember the man's name that said them:


"It's not like all those other RPGs out there where your character develops on a leash and leaves you to accept the moral lessons being fed to you. In this game you really choose what type of person you are."

"Unlike most PC RPGs this game doesn't ask you what your alignment is... it makes you prove it."


To me this is why so many people have been drawn to Planescape and why it is so good.

I agree w/ what you said: once she got his response, that is all that mattered. Like you said, she realizes all she wanted was his response, even if it wasn't what she was fishing for.

I agree w/ this 100% percect.

It's been a while, but if I recall, you start as True Neutral, right?
(Maybe I should start a new game just to find out!)

It's amazing that this game has been installed on my PC since I've owned it -- and never left my HD. Yeah, that and The Sims. These two games I always eventually come back to (even if The Sims is NOT my favorite game, though PS:T is in my top 10).

I also love the universe it's set in: Sigil. The City of Doors is cool, quirky, odd, weird, morbid, and often unpredictable.

I really hope to see another game in Planescape or a universe like it, even though D&D pretty much chucked it away.

I had never thought about that. I usually gave her the answer love or woman. I think one time I gave her the answer age.

Did you like the mazes? I thought the Nameless One's maze and the Mordon Cube maze were the coolest. To me Ravel's maze should have been harder. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I really wish there had been a Planescape II or soemthing else like Planescape.

Were there any parts that you didn't like?

I didn't fire PS:T up; I actualyl went and worked on Gothic 2.

Ravel is tough enough, as she is -- nevermind hardening her maze!! hehe.

I never did Modron's Maze!

The Lady Of PAin's Maze was a pain, though.

There's an NWN fan-made mod called Demon which takes place in surrounding cities of Sigil and eventually Sigil, but that's about it.

I wish there'd be another game in the Planescape universe, but not another story revolving around The Nameless One or his friends.

Some minor stuff:
-Not a lot of classes
-Can't multi-class your abilities at the same time (like be a thief that can also use magic and do this at same time)
-Game has some bugs still, even after its official (there was some fanmade patches to fix bugs & unwrap some dialogue that the game actually left out, probably due to its content)
-No multiple resolutions

This stuff wasn't really commomplace yet in RPG's when I first played it, so this is not an issue at all:
-No official mod kit
-Full 3D for advantages of NWN:HOTU of an unlocked camera, so you can rotate, pan, move, pitch, zoom in, zoom out, and move the camera any way you feel.

As I just said, I havn't finnished it yet... (thank's a LOT <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />!)

The only thing I know about the ending is my brother who played a mage. He thought the only stats you needed as a mage was int, wis and cha, so hed 25 (or is it 24?) in all these stats. Whe he got too the final boss the was really exited, because he had gotten some new, cool lvl 9 spells and he just longed to own the f*cker up. In the conversation before the last battle he said "Give up!". The boss said "OK, I give up" and that was the last battle for him <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" /> [Linked Image]. (But, but, but... I started it, played a while, but found everything quite complex.

It's a shame that this game won't sell in the age of Action-RPGs and fast-speed-games (D2, Sacred), where long texts to read might rather be considered annoying instead of enrichment.

To me, PS:T is a rare Gem, like every genre produces such rare gems (Homeworld for the Strategy genre, Zanzarah for the Adventure genre, imho).

PS:T came out after BG1, but not too long before BG2's release --- bad timing for them to release this gem, as Bioware's BG series owned the CRPG planet.

I've finished all the way from beginning to end PS:T once -- I finished it in like 2 months, first time through. I did reload saves and do different ways to finish the game that I could on my last load, of course, just to check some of it out.

On my 2nd run-through -- well, it's still in progress and has been for a long time! The game beckons me every now and then, and I just have to come back to it.

I'd probably be back on it, but I'm trying to end Gothic 2, sicne I'm like 45 hours-plus in.

I havn't finnished it yet, I've finnished Rabel though, and had just got to some kind of new dimension (right after the dragon skelleton, or what ever it was. The guy in the skelly was fun though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" /> (YEAH, JUST TAKE MY LAST SCROLL OF RAIN OR BLADES AND LEAVE ME DEFENCELESS, DO THAT, DO THAT...)). Then I realized I had invested too much in int and wis, so I had to restart... I tied a fighter, wich was kind of useless. And it wasn't fun anymore, it was just pain trying to get back to were I was before, knowing exactly what everybody was going to say <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />. It all was great the first time though...
